World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices turned down after a strong increase session. At the end of yesterday's trading session (August 27), Brent oil and WTI oil increased by 2.1% and 1.6% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities simultaneously turned down. At 7:28 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 83.41 USD/barrel, down 0.12 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.14%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 83.53 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 83.71 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 88.46 USD/barrel, down 0.05 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.06%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 88.51 USD/barrel, and opened today's session at 88.53 USD/barrel.
World oil prices reversed to increase by about 2% in the trading session on August 27, amid unsuccessful negotiations between the US and Iran, while supply continued to be limited.
Information that US President Donald Trump does not want to return to the terms in the memorandum that the US and Iran reached in June is considered one of the factors supporting oil prices.
On August 27, the US announced that it would not negotiate with Iran, despite diplomatic efforts by other countries to bring the two sides back to the negotiating table. The fact that the diplomatic process has not made new progress, along with the situation of limited supply, has increased pressure on the oil market.
Earlier, on August 24, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington had imposed "the harshest sanctions in history" on Iran. He said that increasing economic pressure could reduce the need to resume large-scale military operations.
However, the Iranian side believes that these measures are not effective.
Meanwhile, transportation through the Strait of Hormuz has shown signs of slight improvement but is still significantly lower than the recent average.
According to data from maritime transport tracking firm Kpler, on August 26, 10 cargo ships were recorded passing through the Strait of Hormuz, up from 8 ships on August 25. However, this number is still lower than the 10-day average, about 15 ships.
