In yesterday's trading session, at the beginning of the morning session, oil prices simultaneously decreased but then quickly reversed, rebounding strongly again. Closing the session on April 29, WTI crude oil increased by 7%, and Brent oil increased by 6.1%.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities continued to fluctuate significantly. At 8:19 am (Vietnam time), WTI crude oil price was at 107.37 USD/barrel, up 0.51 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.48%. WTI oil closed the previous trading session at 99.93 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 99.59 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 110.95 USD/barrel, down 0.80 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.90%. Brent oil price closed the previous trading session at 111.85 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 111.84 USD/barrel.
Thus, world oil prices have climbed to their highest level in many weeks.
According to analysts, this increase mainly stems from the fact that US-Iran negotiations continue to fall into deadlock, increasing concerns that the disruption of oil supply from the Middle East will continue to be prolonged. In the context that traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is still limited, the market is even more sensitive to all signals of supply shortages.
Besides geopolitical factors, newly released data from the US Government also contributed to pushing oil prices up when it showed that crude oil and fuel product inventories in the past week simultaneously decreased much deeper than forecast. Crude oil inventories alone decreased by 6.2 million barrels, while gasoline and distillate inventories also continued to decline, reflecting that consumption demand is still high and supply in the market has not improved significantly.
