World oil prices today
World oil prices on December 6 (Vietnam time) were trading around yesterday's closing price. At 11:40 a.m., WTI crude oil was at $68.25/barrel, down slightly by $0.05/barrel, or 0.07%. WTI crude oil closed yesterday's trading session at $68.30/barrel and opened today's session at $68.42/barrel.
Brent crude oil was at $72.01 a barrel, down slightly by $0.08 a barrel, or 0.11 percent. Brent crude oil closed the previous session at $72.09 a barrel and opened today at $72.15 a barrel.
Thus, world oil prices continued to fall today after closing slightly down on December 5. According to Reuters, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+) had planned to start lifting production cuts from October this year, but due to slowing global demand and high production outside the group, the plan had to be postponed many times.
At the meeting on December 5, OPEC+ said it would gradually lift the 2.2 million barrel/day cut from April 2025 with a monthly increase of 138,000 barrels/day, lasting for 18 months until September 2026.
Limiting oil’s decline during the session was a weaker US dollar. Analysts expect the US Federal Reserve to cut interest rates this month, further easing the strength of the US dollar and supporting the oil market.
