World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices fell sharply. At the end of the weekend trading session, WTI oil price was at 90.54 USD/barrel, down 2.50 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 2.69%. WTI oil closed the previous session at 93.04 USD/barrel and opened the weekend session at 92.86 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 93.09 USD/barrel, down 1.94 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 2.04%. Brent oil closed the previous session at 95.03 USD/barrel and opened the weekend session at 95.29 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, oil prices fell sharply as investors increasingly believe that the risk of escalating conflict between the US and Iran is decreasing. Although no official agreement has been signed, the market is still betting on the possibility that tensions will continue to cool down in the near future.
On June 5, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem rejected the US-mediated agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government to end the conflict. Meanwhile, Iran affirmed that reaching a ceasefire in Lebanon is a prerequisite for any peace agreement with Washington.
US President Donald Trump said he saw signs of progress in discussions between Israel and Lebanon, and emphasized that Lebanon deserves peace.
Experts believe that optimistic sentiment in the market is still quite fragile as conflicting information from related parties continuously appears. Therefore, any positive signal can quickly be overshadowed by new developments in the conflict.
Regarding supply, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) still maintains its forecast for global oil demand growth this year at 1.2 million barrels/day, despite tensions in the Middle East and the Hoarmuz Strait remaining closed.
Sea transport data shows that Iran's oil exports have fallen to a 6-year low due to the impact of US naval blockades. However, the prospect of weakening consumption demand in China continues to put pressure on the market, contributing to pulling oil prices down.
