World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices continue to fluctuate significantly. WTI oil price increased by 2.07 USD, equivalent to 2.75%, to 77.29 USD/barrel; Brent oil increased by 3.04 USD, equivalent to 3.83%, to 82.49 USD/barrel.
World oil prices reversed to increase after information emerged that a committee of the Iranian Parliament was considering a bill banning countries considered "hostile" from crossing the Strait of Hormuz. The bill also proposed imposing fines of up to 20% of the value of goods for violations.
According to TASS news agency, Iran has agreed to open a temporary maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz under an agreement with Oman. This information was confirmed by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and published by IRNA news agency.
According to Mr. Gharibabadi, Iran and Oman are coordinating to deploy a new maritime route, initially identified as a temporary solution to maintain traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. This route is expected to operate for 2-4 months and may be extended if negotiations between the two sides achieve positive results.
Iranian diplomats believe that the opening of a temporary shipping route stems from uncertainties about the security situation in the region. According to him, Tehran cannot predict security developments in the near future as well as the possibility of the Hormuz Strait returning to stable status soon. Therefore, maintaining an alternative shipping route is considered necessary to ensure maritime operations.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei also confirmed that Iran and Oman had agreed on the geographical coordinates of the new maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz. He said the two countries may soon announce a joint statement on the content of the agreement.
