World oil prices today
World oil prices unexpectedly reversed and increased sharply after a series of deep declines last weekend. At 8:08 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil prices reached 92.35 USD/barrel, up 1.81 USD/barrel, equivalent to 2% compared to the previous session. Previously, WTI oil closed at 90.54 USD/barrel and opened a new trading session at 93 USD/barrel.
Meanwhile, Brent oil price rose to 95.46 USD/barrel, up 2.36 USD/barrel, equivalent to 2.55%. Brent oil closed the previous session at 95.03 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 95.29 USD/barrel.
Thus, the current increase has completely compensated for the 2% decline recorded in the last session of last week. According to analysts, the prospect of reaching a peace agreement between the US and Iran is becoming increasingly fragile as a factor supporting the recovery of Brent oil prices as well as natural gas in Europe in recent days.
However, the upward momentum of oil prices is still limited by high inventory levels, more flexible export activities, and consumption demand showing signs of slowing down. In addition, market sentiment is still affected by conflicting information related to the geopolitical situation in the Middle East.
Regarding supply, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) continues to maintain an optimistic view of global energy demand prospects, forecasting an increase of about 1.2 million barrels/day this year despite instability in the Middle East. This is considered one of the factors supporting oil prices in the medium and long term.
In the opposite direction, Iran's oil exports have fallen to their lowest level in 6 years due to the impact of transport control measures and disruptions to maritime activities. This development has increased concerns about oil supply in the market, thereby continuing to support the recovery momentum of oil prices.
