World oil prices today
World oil prices today turned to decrease. At 11:21, WTI crude oil was at 73.21 USD/barrel, down 0.11 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.15%. WTI crude oil closed the previous trading session at 73.32 USD/barrel, opening today's session at 73.26 USD/barrel.
Brent crude oil was at $76.06 a barrel, down $0.10 a barrel, or 0.13 percent. Brent crude oil closed the previous session at $76.16 a barrel and opened today at $76.22 a barrel.
Thus, world oil prices have turned sharply downward. At the end of yesterday's trading session (January 8), Brent and WTI oil prices fell 1.16% and 1.25%, respectively. The downward trend continued in this morning's session.
Analysts said the market was pressured by a significant increase in U.S. gasoline and diesel inventories in recent weeks. Fuel inventories have risen as refineries continue to ramp up production. In addition, a stronger U.S. dollar makes oil more expensive for holders of other currencies.
Higher inflation in Germany also raised concerns that the European Central Bank may not cut interest rates across the eurozone as quickly as expected.
Supporting oil prices were expectations of improved demand due to holiday travel and economic commitments in China. Cold weather in the US and Europe boosted heating oil demand.
