World oil prices today
World oil prices today rebounded sharply. At 10:09, WTI crude oil was at 74.53 USD/barrel, up 0.28 USD/barrel, or down 0.38%. WTI crude oil closed the previous trading session at 74.25 USD/barrel, opening today's session at 74.56 USD/barrel.
Brent crude oil was at $77.30 a barrel, up $0.25 a barrel, or 0.32 percent. Brent crude oil closed the previous session at $77.05 a barrel and opened today at $77.27 a barrel.
Thus, world oil prices are on a strong upward trend. At the end of yesterday's trading session (January 7), Brent and WTI oil prices increased by 0.98% and 0.94%, respectively. The upward trend continued in this morning's session.
Oil prices rose on expectations of improved demand from holiday travel and economic commitments in China, while cold weather in the United States and Europe boosted heating oil demand, although gains were capped by weak global economic data, analysts said.
Weighing on oil prices was higher inflation in Germany, raising concerns the European Central Bank may not cut interest rates across the eurozone as quickly as expected.
Another factor, according to analysts, is that the technical indicators for oil futures are currently in overbought territory and sellers are looking to step back in to capitalize on this strength, limiting the upside momentum.
