Fisheries industry overcomes difficulties and maintains stability
The year 2024 ended with many challenges for the Vietnamese fisheries industry. Unusual weather fluctuations, especially the impact of 10 major storms, many tropical depressions and storm No. 3 (Yagi), caused serious damage to fisheries exploitation activities.
In addition, international conflicts have slowed down the global economic recovery. In this context, international demand for seafood consumption has decreased sharply, and the "yellow card" warning from the EC continues to negatively affect our country's seafood export capacity.
However, overcoming many difficulties, the Vietnamese seafood industry has recorded encouraging results. Total seafood output in 2024 is estimated at 9.6 million tons, up 2% compared to 2023. Of which, seafood exploitation reached 3.855 million tons, up 0.6%.

Seafood export turnover in 2024 is also significant, estimated at 10.07 billion USD, up 12.1% over the same period last year. This achievement is not only the result of strong direction from the Central to local levels, but also demonstrates the spirit of hard work and resilience of fishermen at sea.
Strong direction to increase support for fishermen
In the context of ensuring the achieved development momentum, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued a directive to the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities.
Localities need to increase support for fishermen during the Lunar New Year 2025 to both meet seafood consumption needs and contribute to affirming sovereignty and security of seas and islands.
Currently, it is the main season of the 2024-2025 northern fish season, which is the period with high demand for aquatic products for the Tet holiday. The Ministry of Agriculture recommends that provinces closely coordinate in monitoring weather developments to ensure safety for fishermen.

Localities are also required to organize activities to visit and provide material and spiritual encouragement to fishermen in difficult circumstances, especially those who stay at sea during Tet.
After Tet, the provinces are also assigned to organize the New Year's launching ceremony and the fish praying ceremony to encourage the fishermen's working spirit and at the same time commend the fishing vessels with high fishing results during the season. A detailed report on the list of fishing vessels and fishermen staying at sea will be compiled and sent to the Ministry before January 23, 2025, while the post-Tet report will be due before February 2, 2025.
