Research direction from digital transformation to sustainable development
On August 7, in Hanoi, the Banking Academy hosted the International Scientific Conference for Young Scientists in Economics and Business in 2026 (ICYREB 2026).
With the theme "Strengthening the adaptability of the economy to global challenges: From digital transformation to sustainable development", the conference focused on the issues posed to the economy before climate change, digital transformation and the increasing incertitudes of the global economic environment.
ICYREB is an annual activity within the framework of cooperation between universities in the Economics and Business sector, built to create an academic forum for young scientists, promote research exchange and expand connections with the international scientific community.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Hoang Anh - Standing Deputy Director of the Banking Academy - emphasized that the world is witnessing many simultaneous fluctuations, from geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, financial risks, climate change to rapid changes in technology.
These fluctuations not only affect short-term growth but also pose new requirements for the governance capacity, policy management and development orientation of each country.
According to ICYREB 2026's orientation, digital transformation opens up the possibility of connectivity, data exploitation and innovation, while sustainable development requires the development process to be oriented towards people, the environment and long-term benefits. These are also the two main axes connected in the theme of this year's conference.
The conference was attended by speakers from home and abroad, including Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Duy from Durham University, UK, with research directions on corporate finance, banking, household finance and climate finance; Prof. Dr. Fengsheng Chien from Fuzhou University of Foreign Languages and Commerce, China, with expertise related to energy, carbon assets and emissions.
According to the Organizing Committee, ICYREB 2026 received more than 230 articles with diverse research topics. After a review process, 68 scientific works were selected to be presented at two plenary sessions, one seminar and 16 parallel sessions, with content spanning from household finance to carbon economics.
The papers accepted and presented at ICYREB 2026 will be published in the ISBN indexed International Scientific Conference Yearbook. Quality papers are considered for publication in the Journal of Economics and Banking Studies special issue.
Towards a carbon neutralization workshop model
A highlight of ICYREB 2026 is the orientation to organize seminars according to the carbon neutrality event model, bringing sustainable development goals from research content into the organization's own activities.
According to the Organizing Committee, ICYREB 2026 for the first time applies the solution of purchasing carbon certificates from certified programs and projects to compensate for greenhouse gas emissions generated during the organization process such as transportation, accommodation and energy use.
This approach aims to reduce the environmental impact of the event, while linking academic activities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
2026 also marks 65 years of construction and development of the Banking Academy. According to the opening speech, at THE Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, the Banking Academy is in the group 301-400 in the world for Sustainable Development Goal No. 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
The organization of ICYREB 2026 in the direction of carbon neutralization is identified by the Banking Academy as part of the process of linking scientific research with sustainable development and responsibility to the community.
ICYREB is organized annually to create space for young scientists to announce research results, exchange methods and expand cooperation networks. The Banking Academy and co-organizers said they will continue to develop ICYREB into an open academic forum, supporting young scientists to participate more deeply in international research networks.
The international scientific conference ICYREB 2026 is sponsored by Vietnam Bank for Investment and Development BIDV, aiming to promote academic research and knowledge exchange in the fields of economy and business.
