People take advantage of hunting for promotions
Recorded at some supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City in the first days of August, the shopping atmosphere was quite bustling, especially in the late afternoon and weekend hours. Many stalls of fresh food, vegetables, fruits, drinks, cosmetics and essential consumer goods attracted many people thanks to discount programs, buy 1 get 1 free and invoice promotions.
At Tops Market Thao Dien supermarket (An Khanh ward), many customers said that they prioritize buying essential goods that are being discounted to save living costs. Besides the incentives, consumers are still particularly interested in the origin and quality of goods.
Ms. Tran Tu Anh (resident of An Khanh ward) shared: "My family often goes to supermarkets to buy food and daily necessities because there are often promotions, prices are reduced quite a lot. However, I still prioritize products with clear origins, especially fresh food, so I often choose to buy at large supermarkets.
Not only Tops Market, retail systems such as Saigon Co. op, GO!, AEON, Bach Hoa Xanh... also simultaneously launched stimulus programs with discounts of 10-50% for thousands of items, focusing on food, necessities and household goods. Businesses expect the promotional chain to last throughout the summer and the start-up period to contribute to stimulating consumer demand, and at the same time help families reduce the burden of spending.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office, in July, many businesses continued to implement preferential and promotional programs, contributing to increasing purchasing power in the market. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the month are estimated at VND 170,067 billion, up 2.3% compared to the previous month and up 16.3% compared to the same period last year. Accumulated for 7 months of 2026, this target reached approximately VND 1,133,721 billion, up 13.3% compared to the same period. Retail sales of goods in July alone are estimated at VND 80,144 billion, up 2.7% compared to the previous month and up 19.2% compared to the same period.
Towards a shopping season associated with tourism and experience
Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan - CEO of MM Mega Market Vietnam & Big C Cambodia - informed that the company is implementing many large-scale promotions, applying to more than 3,000 products in many industries, from vegetables, fruits, meat, fish to consumer goods.
According to Mr. Toan, the business recorded double-digit sales growth, while the number of customers nationwide increased by more than 10%. This shows that the programs in the Focused Promotion Month are receiving positive responses, while contributing to strengthening consumer confidence.
According to Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, every year the city implements two large-scale consumer stimulus campaigns in the summer and late year. Implementing the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the department is coordinating with departments and branches to build a large-scale stimulus program in the direction of connecting many fields to attract people and tourists.
Accordingly, the tourism industry will coordinate to build tours, routes and destinations associated with shopping activities, helping tourists both visit and experience shopping, culture, entertainment, health care, beauty and many other types of services.
The city also aims to mobilize transportation, aviation and accommodation businesses to participate in preferential programs such as taxi discounts, airfares, hotels... thereby forming attractive tourism - shopping packages at attractive prices. The goal is to turn the concentrated promotion season into an annual event, building a unique mark for Ho Chi Minh City as a destination combining shopping, entertainment and experience.
