Returning to the Mekong Delta, enjoying "centennial" mangosteen
In Can Tho City, many families still preserve mangosteen trees over 100 years old. Although almost no fertilizers or pesticides are needed, the ancient trees still grow well, giving a yield of 300-500kg of fruit each season with characteristic delicious quality.

According to gardeners, mangosteen is a "difficult" tree, flowering and fruiting completely depend on natural conditions, and cannot be processed to bear fruit as desired. In return, the tree has very few pests and diseases, and almost no pesticides, so it is considered a clean fruit that retains its natural flavor.
Although the quality is highly appreciated by the market, the economic efficiency of mangosteen is not stable due to strong price fluctuations, prolonged construction time and high harvest costs. Therefore, many farmers are no longer interested in replanting, while long-standing mangosteen gardens are mainly preserved as part of the heritage of the Mekong Delta gardening profession.
