On November 14, information from the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee said that the unit has requested localities to coordinate with businesses and people to change crop structure, expand agricultural areas such as passion fruit, sugar cane, etc.
Factories have raw material areas for development, ensuring the harmony of interests between people and businesses. District People's Committees organize training on techniques for planting and caring for sugarcane and passion fruit so that people can confidently develop production, ensuring stability and efficiency.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kon Tum province, local people have developed 338.59 hectares of passion fruit out of the 1,000 hectares of the assigned plan, reaching 33.86% of the assigned plan.
In which, mainly concentrated in Sa Thay, Ia H'Drai, Kon Ray, Kon Plong, Dak Ha, Dak To, Dak Glei districts and Kon Tum city...
Regarding sugarcane, the whole Kon Tum province has planted 544ha/800ha of new sugarcane in the 2023-2024 crop year, reaching 68% of the plan. Thereby, increasing the total sugarcane area in the whole province to 1,521ha/2,000ha, reaching 76% of the plan.
The reason why passion fruit acreage in the area has not reached the target is because the prices of agricultural products such as coffee, pepper, durian, etc. have increased and stabilized. This leads to competition for acreage between passion fruit and other valuable crops.
Due to unstable passion fruit prices and market, farmers’ psychology is affected. Unusual weather and late rainy season affect passion fruit development.
The target of delivering 2,000 hectares of sugarcane and the target of planting 479 hectares of new sugarcane in 2024 is also difficult to achieve due to low prices, difficult transportation infrastructure for purchasing at the field, fragmented land area... so people are not really interested in development.
Kon Tum Sugar Joint Stock Company also requested the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee to create all conditions for disseminating policies and mechanisms for sugarcane development to the people.
The People's Committees of districts and cities assign targets to villages and hamlets so that the company can coordinate in developing sugarcane.
Some other processing enterprises requested the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee to complete the water supply and drainage infrastructure, centralized wastewater treatment, coordinate surveys and select passion fruit growing areas to focus on large-scale commodity production.
