On July 17, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee organized the 2026 Investment Promotion Conference with the theme "Lao Cai - Connecting Development - Green and Sustainable", to strengthen investment attraction, promote trade and tourism development, expand cooperation and business connection.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Mr. Duong Quoc Huy - Secretary of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee - emphasized that after the merger, Lao Cai has a larger scale, stronger internal strength and is being led by the aspiration for innovation, constructive thinking and a model of government serving and acting for the people and businesses.
According to Mr. Duong Quoc Huy, the province firmly adheres to the viewpoint "Business success is local success" and the motto "Business prospers - Lao Cai develops".
The initial results in building institutions, arranging organizational structures, administrative reform and removing bottlenecks have shown the province's strong determination to improve the investment environment.
Mr. Duong Quoc Huy affirmed that Lao Cai will always accompany the business community with responsibility, action and specific results.
The difficulties of businesses are also the difficulties of the province; the satisfaction and success of businesses are a measure of the quality of leadership and administration of the heads of Party committees and authorities at all levels," emphasized the Secretary of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee.
At the conference, the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee introduced to businesses and investors the potentials, advantages and cooperation opportunities of the locality.
Accordingly, Lao Cai is gradually affirming its role as a new growth pole of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region thanks to its geo-economic location, resources, cultural identity and development potential.
Located on the Kunming - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh economic corridor, and possessing an increasingly complete transport infrastructure system with roads, railways, waterways and aviation development orientations, Lao Cai has many favorable conditions to develop logistics, industry, trade, tourism and services.
Lao Cai currently has more than 110 projects on the list of special investment incentives and more than 430 projects calling for investment that are public and transparent.
The province also implemented many business support models such as "smart border gates", "green channel of administrative procedures", piloting the "30 days to create investment" model, thereby shortening the processing time of investment policy approval procedures to below 50% compared to before.
Notably, Lao Cai has been approved by the Prime Minister in principle to soon deploy the Border Economic Cooperation Zone model. This is expected to become a new growth engine with many preferential mechanisms and policies, contributing to effectively exploiting the advantages of border gates and deeper connection with global value chains.
Representing the business community, Ms. Le Thi Thu Huyen - Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of TLS Viet Trung Investment Joint Stock Company - assessed that the results achieved after the merger have shown the great determination of the provincial leaders in improving the investment environment.
According to Ms. Huyen, businesses want a stable institution, digitized administrative procedures, transparent management mechanisms and specific policies for border gate areas to improve national trade competitiveness.
When implementing the project in Lao Cai, we will prioritize using local labor, supporting ethnic minorities to improve their livelihoods, and at the same time fully fulfill our responsibilities to the State and the community," Ms. Le Thi Thu Huyen shared.
