Lao Cai - After a period of suspension, Quy Xa iron mine officially restarted exploitation from September 10, the first shipments of ore were loaded onto conveyor belts.

After the first rains, the road leading to Quy Xa mine (Van Ban commune, Lao Cai province) is still dark red soil. But the atmosphere here is different from before.

Between the mine layers, excavators start operating from September 10th. In the processing area, the conveyor belt system moves continuously, bringing the first streams of ore to the gathering point.

Workers in protective gear are on duty by the production line, checking equipment, and monitoring each stage on the first day the mine resumed operation.

Each lump of ore is brought into the receiving area by an excavator. The sound of machinery echoes in the mining ground after a period of interruption, signaling a new production cycle is beginning.

According to the licensed plan, Thu Do Metal Exploitation and Processing Joint Stock Company is carrying out iron ore mining at Quy Xa Mine.

The total reserves of iron ore allowed to be mined are more than 73 million tons, with a maximum capacity of 5 million tons of raw ore per year, and a mining period of 15 years and 8 months.

The ore source mined here is used to serve domestic iron and steel production.

In the immediate future, Quy Xa ore will supply raw materials to the Lao Cai Iron and Steel Factory of Viet Trung Mineral and Metallurgy Co., Ltd. (VTM), and also supply to domestic iron and steel production facilities according to market principles.

According to the plan, from now until the end of 2026, Quy Xa Mine is expected to exploit more than 1 million tons of ore.

The mine's resumption also means that many workers have the opportunity to return to their familiar jobs.

Engineer Nguyen Viet Dung used to work for 5 years at Quy Xa Mine. In recent years, when mining operations temporarily stopped, he switched to working at some other units. On the day the mine restarted, he returned to the place he was attached to.

Mr. Dung hopes that Quy Xa Mine as well as Lao Cai Iron and Steel Factory will maintain stable production. Thereby ensuring jobs and long-term income for workers.

Along with Mr. Dung, many workers and engineers who used to work at Quy Xa are also returning to production positions.

At the mining site, excavator, transportation, technical, and safety operating positions are arranged in shifts.

At the production line area, workers continuously check the amount of ore on the conveyor belt, and monitor equipment during operation.

Mr. Do Vu Hung - Director of Quy Xa Mine, Thu Do Metal Mining and Processing Joint Stock Company said that the unit has completed legal procedures to serve mining.

At the same time, focus resources and invest in machinery and equipment to serve iron ore exploitation and processing.

The resumption of the Quy Xa Mine's operation is of great significance to the Lao Cai Iron and Steel Plant, especially in proactively securing raw materials for production.

According to leaders of Lao Cai province, bringing Quy Xa Mine back to exploitation is expected to contribute significantly to the province's GRDP in 2026, creating jobs for hundreds of workers and increasing local budget revenue.

Not only meaningful to the locality, ore from Quy Xa also supplements domestic raw materials for the metallurgical industry, contributing to improving the ability to proactively supply and reducing dependence on external raw materials.
