Currently, Lam Dong province has about 45,500ha of durian, the largest in the country, with an estimated output of about 310,000 tons in 2026. Products are mainly consumed domestically and exported to the Chinese market and some other countries. The whole province is currently granted 346 durian growing area codes with an area of more than 13,297ha; 70 packaging facility codes for export and 69 growing area codes for domestic consumption.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao - Secretary of the Party Committee of Da Huoai 2 commune - said that the locality is considered the "capital" of durian in the province with nearly 3,450ha. The average production value per 1ha of agricultural land reaches about 300 million VND/year, the average income per capita reaches 103.5 million VND/person/year, the highest in the province.
According to Ms. Thao, durian yield in the locality averages from 14 - 15 tons/ha, many households have billions of VND in annual revenue thanks to this crop. However, according to Mr. Vu Dinh Cuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, durian production and export are still facing many difficulties. Notably, the situation of "borrowing codes", "selling codes" of growing areas and packaging facilities still occurs, potentially affecting the traceability and export reputation of durian in the locality.
Currently, Lam Dong province has 133 businesses and cooperatives purchasing durian; 47 production - consumption linkage chains with 1,678 participating households, with a total area of about 4,500ha.
Ms. Hoang Ngoc Duyen - Deputy Head of the Crop Production Department, Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Lam Dong province said that the whole province has been approved by the General Department of Customs of China for 961 planting area codes with an area of 39,360ha and 362 packaging facility codes for export. In which, durian is the second crop after dragon fruit in terms of scale and standardization speed of export codes.
To support businesses, specialized units in Lam Dong have signed service contracts for testing, inspection and analysis of durian export samples with businesses and cooperatives with packaging facility codes in the province.
