Taking advantage of picking mulberry to earn extra income from morning to night on the beach, Ms. Tran Thi Hong (75 years old, in Hong Phong commune, Vu Thu district) said that her family has more than 1 mulberry growing model. Because mulberries can only be harvested in about a month, Ms. Hong takes advantage of the harvest day to pick the fruit until late at night. mulberries ripen very quickly, many families cannot harvest in time, and the fruit has many stumps.
"I often pick mulberry when it is dry, at that time, the plants do not have fog and only pick ripe, dark red or black mulberry that is sweet. picking mulberries also requires skill and care because ripe mulberries can be crushed and crushed, just a little bit of strength can affect the quality," said Ms. Hong.
According to mulberry growers in Hong Phong commune, growing mulberry is not difficult, nor takes care of, just need to clean the grass and fertilize the cage every year. In particular, do not use pesticides because people take silkworm leaves all year round, so ensure clean and safe fruit for users.
Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chon's garden (in Hong Phong commune, Vu Thu district) grows 7 sao of mulberries. For more than a week now, the mulberry has started to ripen, Mrs. Chon took the opportunity to pick it to soak and sell retail.
"A day I harvest leaves and pick more fruits to get about 5kg. mulberry trees are harvested every year for about a month but do not take much effort or investment. Depending on each person's ability, some people get millions and some get better in the wedding season. Compared to growing short-term vegetables, the effectiveness of harvesting leaves for raising silkworms is better," said Ms. Chon.
According to statistics, currently, the total area of mulberry trees in Hong Phong commune is more than 250 hectares, with about 1,200 mulberry growing households raising mulberry trees, helping to bring stable income to the people.
