Market is flourishing
Although there is still about a month until Tet Nguyen Dan, the atmosphere in the vegetable fields in Can Tho City has become bustling. Each household is focusing their efforts on the final sprint, ensuring a quality supply to the market.

Mr. Pham Thanh Quan (a watermelon grower in Phuoc Thoi ward, Can Tho city) said that this Tet crop, his family planted 5,000 m2 of watermelons to supply the market. According to this farmer's assessment, the weather is currently quite erratic, with unseasonal rain, so they have to spend a lot of effort taking care of them.
However, Mr. Quan's joy is that some traders have started to look for pre-orders. With this momentum, if prices are stable, after deducting expenses, his family expects to make a good profit to celebrate Tet in prosperity.
Ms. Le Thi Hoa (a household growing green mustard greens in Dong Hiep commune, Can Tho city), shared that green mustard greens for pickling are currently quite popular and the price is also quite good.
I have harvested 1 crop and am currently taking care of it to sell another crop before Tet. The demand for mustard greens this year is very high. Traders from wholesale markets have placed orders early to make pickled vegetables to supply the market. Although there are some concerns about pests and diseases, thanks to sticking to the fields, I am sure the vegetables will be in time to be sold on time," Ms. Hoa said.

Meanwhile, this Tet crop, Ms. Vo Thi Muoi (O Mon ward, Can Tho city), grows combined papaya and water spinach to maximize the land area. Currently, she is diligently taking care of agricultural products to achieve the best yield. “Water spinach and papaya are both easy-to-consume items during Tet. Traders ordering early helps me reduce competitive pressure when it's the peak season," Ms. Muoi shared.
Weather and pest response
According to data from the Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City), by the end of December 2025, farmers in the area had sown a total of more than 9,000 hectares of vegetables, food and foodstuffs of all kinds.
Some organisms such as hemorrhoids, leaf-piercing flies, silkworms,... are harmful to vegetables: pumpkins, peppers, beans, cucumbers, watermelons, bitter melons, leafy mustard greens and spices, but at a mild level of infection, damage is negligible.

Although most of the crop area is developing well, the city's agricultural sector recommends that farmers cultivating vegetables in low-lying areas and low-lying banks should proactively plan to drain water in a timely manner, clear the flow or use drainage pumps to avoid flooding due to high tides, storms, causing root rot. At the same time, remind farmers to regularly visit fields, take care of and prevent harmful organisms on vegetables of all kinds.
