Hanoi Customs Department said that the Customs Branch at Noi Bai International Airport has just discovered a tourist hiding metal suspected to be gold on his person while entering Vietnam.
Accordingly, at around 9:00 a.m. on October 18, the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch (Hanoi Customs Department) presided over and coordinated with the Department of Investigation Police on Crimes of Corruption, Economy, Smuggling, and Environment (Hanoi Police) and the Noi Bai International Airport Border Police to monitor the luggage and goods of C.H.P tourists (foreign nationality).
According to the identification, the male passenger was on flight number UO550 from Hong Kong (China) departing at 7:40 a.m. (Hong Kong time, October 18) and arriving at Noi Bai International Airport at 8:33 a.m. the same day.
Through the inspection, luggage screening and metal scanning of the passenger entering the country, it was discovered that Mr. P was hiding metal on his person. Immediately, the working group invited the passenger into the inspection room for a physical inspection according to regulations. Here, Mr. C.H.P took out 7 pieces of yellow metal from his person.
Accordingly, 5 pieces of yellow metal were placed around the waistband of the pants, 1 piece of yellow metal was placed in the right shoe and 1 piece of yellow metal was placed in the left shoe. The total weight was about 7kg.
Working with the authorities, Mr. C.H.P confessed that on October 18, he came to Vietnam for tourism on flight UO550 and was hired by a Chinese person to transport the above mentioned metal to Vietnam for a fee of 100 Hong Kong dollars/piece, after which someone would contact him to receive it.
The male tourist voluntarily handed over the above evidence to the authorities for verification and clarification.
Notably, this is the third incident in October 2024 in which Noi Bai International Airport Customs discovered passengers carrying metal suspected to be gold.
Previously, on October 4, the Immigration Baggage Procedures Team (Customs Branch of Noi Bai International Airport) discovered that passenger C.H. on flight UO0550 entering Vietnam was carrying 3 pieces of metal suspected to be gold.
On the same day, passenger H.J. on flight VN593 was found carrying 6 pieces of metal suspected to be gold. After examination, the metal was found to be gold with a content of 99.99%.
The leader of the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch said that, implementing the direction of the Hanoi Customs Department, the unit has synchronously deployed solutions to prevent smuggling and trade fraud, including gold.
In addition to regularly monitoring gold market fluctuations as well as the methods and tricks of the subjects, equipping modern devices such as scanners to detect and prevent smuggling, the unit researches and develops the software "Managing information of passengers entering and leaving the country" with the criteria of being fast, convenient, simple and effective.
