According to information from the Customs Department, the Customs Control Team under the Customs Branch of Region IX, through the work of collecting and screening information, discovered a drug trafficking ring from Thailand and Laos to Vietnam. The marijuana was packaged in candy boxes, disguised with groceries and transported through Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province, then deposited on transport vehicles to be delivered to localities for consumption.
The subjects used many sophisticated methods and tricks to avoid detection such as virtual currency transactions, hiring shippers through delivery applications, moving goods through many areas, sending people to monitor receiving points to warn.
The Customs Control Team has established a special project for MT 379, coordinating with the Drug Crime Investigation Police force (PC04) in Quang Tri, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Tinh and the Anti-smuggling Investigation Department to fight and destroy. From May 19 to May 31, 2025, the task force arrested 3 subjects, seizing about 30 kg of marijuana in the above provinces and cities.
All exhibits and related subjects have been handed over to PC04 of Hanoi City Police, Ha Tinh Provincial Police and Ho Chi Minh City Police for further investigation and clarification.
