According to Dr. Hoang Duong Tung, Chairman of the Vietnam Clean Air Network, transportation is the number one source of emissions in large cities. Ho Chi Minh City alone has about 9 million motorbikes and 1 million cars, while Hanoi has more than 7 million motorbikes and 800,000 cars. The number of used vehicles emitting PM2.5 fine dust is increasing, making the polluting season appear to have become the citys fifth season. He emphasized: "Clean air does not come by itself, but must come from drastic actions every day."

Not only road, aviation is also under pressure to reduce emissions in the context of the global towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. The sharing of Mr. To Viet Thang - Permanent Deputy General Director of Vietjet at the seminar provided a clearer view of the green journey of Vietjet Airlines and the entire Vietnamese aviation industry.

Mr. To Viet Thang shared: "Sustainable development is always a top priority for Vietjet." The new generation airline Vietjet has announced the ESG report and synchronously deployed many solutions such as carbon offset mechanisms through credits, afforestation, investment in renewable energy; optimizing exploitation technology, washing engines periodically, applying AI in exploitation operations to optimize costs and fuel. Thanks to that, each passenger on Vietjet flights can reduce emissions by an average of 38% compared to the old aircraft.

According to statistics, each 1km flight seat emits 50 grams of CO2. Vietjet's fleet is modern and optimized in its operations. pilots must fly to reduce emissions in the most optimal way, flight planners must fly to make flights the shortest, flight methods are the most efficient, make the aircraft the lightest, wash the engine regularly... In recent years, the company has also used environmentally friendly items on the aircraft. Therefore, passengers who want to reduce their carbon footprint by choosing Vietjet will have the least footfall," Mr. Thang shared.

Vietjet also pioneers in researching and using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) - which can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80%. In 2024, Vietjet successfully carried out the first SAF flights in Vietnam and flights to Australia and South Korea. In August, the airline signed a cooperation to purchase SAF mixed in Vietnam to put SAF into use on its regular flights, a new step forward in the journey of producing and consuming SAF in Vietnam.

The green commitments and sustainable development that the aviation industry in general and Vietjet in particular are contributing to promoting green transformation activities are the driving force for the entire transformation economy. When businesses dare to pioneer technology, invest sustainably and the community joins hands, environmental challenges will turn into development opportunities for the country in the new era of development.

Mr. Nguyen Dong Phong, Director of the Road Mechanical Vehicle Emissions Testing Center (Vietnam Register) said that the current environmental pollution emissions include on-site emissions, gas in production and business and emissions related to greenhouse gases. In which, greenhouse gas is a common global problem, while spot gas emissions are a story of everyone. The leader of the Department of Inspection affirmed that the process of switching to clean, green, zero-emission fuel still faces many difficulties and obstacles.

"The world has changed, we have to take advantage and narrow the gap. This process is certainly a trade-off, only if it is more profitable can it be done. In my opinion, in the short term it is difficult but in the long term the benefits will be much greater. When the economy grows, the country develops, and income increases, the issue of health, a clean and beautiful green environment needs to be focused on. At present, green transformation is a "golden" opportunity, if the longer the discussion is, the more time and opportunity it will be lost," Mr. Nguyen Dong Phong emphasized.

Promoting green transformation, developing low-emission technology, improving corporate competitiveness, developing a low-carbon economy and responding to climate change, towards the Net Zero goal is a lot of work to do to move towards a green, sustainable future for everyone. Speakers at the seminar discussed and gave suggestions for the transformation and development journey to take place faster and cleaner, bringing benefits to the people and the whole economy.
