At this time, from supermarkets to traditional markets in Can Tho City, Tet goods have been put on shelves and are bustling for sale. However, because shopping demand has not yet reached its peak, the atmosphere is still not exciting.
According to the reporter's records, for essential goods, household appliances and fashion, retailers are launching promotions such as big sales, 30-40% discounts... to stimulate shopping.
However, these days, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Mai (office worker, Can Tho City) only stops at the level of going to look, not rushing to buy early. "Compared to last year, the prices of goods are stable, not increasing much. I mainly go to look first, wait for the Tet bonus before daring to buy because the economy is still difficult, I also consider shopping carefully," Ms. Mai said.
To meet people's tastes and shopping trends during Tet, Ms. Nguyen Kim Hoa - a retailer at Cai Khe Trade Center (Can Tho City) - prioritizes increasing the number of cheap goods and affordable Tet gift baskets.
Ms. Hoa said: "In recent years, the economy has been difficult, customers are saving money, so I mainly import tea, wine, and candy at wholesale and retail prices, affordable for customers. As for foreign and high-end goods, I only buy them when customers order in advance."
According to this trader, purchasing power this year has improved somewhat. However, Ms. Hoa has reduced the amount of stock by half compared to last year to observe the market, only importing more popular items, not importing in bulk to avoid inventory if purchasing power is low.
"This year, Tet is earlier than usual. There are many customers who come to visit and look at the goods on the weekend, but out of 10 people who look at the goods, only about 4-5 people buy. Most of them wait until closer to Tet to buy a lot," said Ms. Hoa.
Meanwhile, for Tet decoration items, the accessory shop on Tran Nam Phu Street (Can Tho City) of Ms. Nguyen Thi Bao Ngoc spent tens of millions of VND to import goods.
"The number of customers booking at this time is mainly coffee shop and office owners who want to decorate early. As for individual customers, there are not many, but they only buy in small quantities. Hopefully, as Tet approaches, purchasing power will increase," said Ms. Ngoc.
