On May 7, information from Vinh International Airport said that the unit will adjust the temporary suspension to July 1, 2025 to serve the work of synchronously renovating and upgrading technical infrastructure items. However, this time frame still needs official approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
During the waiting period for closure, especially in May and June 2025, Vinh airport will continue to operate normally to serve the travel needs of passengers.

Vinh International Airport will simultaneously implement two important renovation projects: expanding the aircraft parking area and upgrading the domestic terminal. The parking lot project has an area of over 29,600m2, designed with 9 Code C aircraft parking locations, with a total investment of 236.6 billion VND, expected to start construction on May 8, 2025.
The domestic terminal upgrade project is invested by Vietnam Airports Corporation - JSC (ACV), including items for filling 5 open-top bades, expanding 1,189m2 of usable area and rearranging functional space, with a total investment of 68.36 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed before December 30, 2025.
In parallel, the airport will implement a project to repair a runway 2,400m long, 45m wide; two taxiways 73.9m and 128m long, 18m wide; along with items such as material sidewalks, brake strips, lighting systems, runway painting and drainage systems, with a total capital of VND 623.4 billion.
According to the overall plan for the development of the national airport system, Vinh airport is expected to reach a capacity of 8 million passengers/year by 2030 and 14 million passengers/year by 2050, with a total investment of more than VND 23,800 billion in two phases.
