The 5-day holiday has become a "golden opportunity" for supermarkets and shopping malls in Hanoi as the number of customers coming to shop and have fun skyrocketed. Revenue and consumption of goods and services all recorded impressive growth.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters at many large supermarket systems in Hanoi, during the April 30 - May holiday, the business area of essential consumer goods, fresh food, and dried food is always crowded with buyers.
At some supermarkets, the loudspeaker system continuously sends announcements apologizing to customers for running out of cardboard boxes to package goods, along with attractive promotions at the end of the day. The payment counter area is always overloaded, causing customers to queue up waiting for their turn.
At Aeon Mall Ha Dong Shopping Center - one of the vibrant destinations during the holidays, the number of people coming to have fun and shop has continuously increased. Dining and cinema areas have become the biggest "viewers". Automatic kiosks at fast food stores always have dozens of customers lining up to wait, with an average time of 20 - 25 minutes each.
"Although I have to wait a long time, I feel less tired than having to leave the city during such a crowded holiday," said Mr. Minh (a tourist from Nghe An).

Talking to Lao Dong, a representative of AEON Vietnam said that this year's holiday falls on a weekend, so people's demand for shopping and entertainment has increased sharply. The number of visitors to shopping malls in the AEON system increased by about 15 - 20% compared to normal days, especially during peak hours in the afternoon and evening.
To meet increasing demand, AEON is committed to ensuring a supply of essential goods at stable prices, increasing work with suppliers to avoid supply chain disruptions, and expanding product portfolio to diversify options for customers. The system also adjusts opening hours, increasing human resources for service during peak hours.
At Coopmart Ha Dong supermarket (Hanoi), Director Nguyen Thi Kim Dung said that the number of customers shopping during the holidays increased by about 20% compared to normal weekends. Notably, many customers from neighboring provinces have also flocked to Hanoi to visit and shop.
According to Mr. Dinh Quang Khoi - Marketing Director of MM Mega Market supermarket system, on April 30 alone, the revenue of the entire system increased by more than 50% over the same period in 2024. Of which, the group of dried goods and essential goods doubled, fresh goods increased by nearly 18%.
A representative of the Winmart system also said that shopping malls in this chain recorded a sharp increase in the number of customers, especially at the children's playground - which is often overloaded from early morning.
Explaining the reason why people flock to supermarkets, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Retailers, former Acting Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade - Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Lan commented that the deep promotion policy and large discounts are the factors that stimulate effective consumption.
"Retailers have prepared carefully, launching many strong incentive programs to attract customers, while creating conditions for people to spend comfortably while still saving," said Ms. Lan.
