Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha (residing in An Khanh ward) said that she often chooses to buy goods at supermarkets because there are many attractive discount programs. "supermarkets have reduced prices for many essential items, plus VAT has been reduced, so every time I buy a large basket of goods, I save a few hundred thousand dong. Saving money and buying quality goods, Ms. Ha shared.
Supermarkets also simultaneously launched major promotions, with discounts of up to 50% for many industries, along with gift programs, accumulation points and unique incentives for member customers, to stimulate shopping in the summer.
Not only creating a vibrant atmosphere for the market, the attraction from domestic consumption has also become a driving force for the food processing industry. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City said that after the arrangement of administrative units, the structure of the city's industry has become more diverse, production poles are widely distributed and production capacity is improved. The city is encouraging businesses, especially the food and beverage industry, to invest in modern machinery, apply new technology, and develop in depth to increase added value and product quality.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc, these policies not only help meet domestic demand but also promote exports to many international markets.
Continuing the stimulus programs, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing the "Shopping Season - Bustling Summer 2025 Shopping" with the participation of more than 10,000 businesses. In July, a series of incentives and promotions were launched to welcome the summer tourism season. In addition, Resolution No. 204/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly on reducing value added tax to 8%, effective from July 1, 2025, has become a support for production - business and shopping activities in the area.
Data from the Ho Chi Minh City Statistical Office shows that total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in July 2025 is estimated to increase by 3.1% compared to the previous month and increase by 14.7% over the same period. In the first 7 months of the year, this index increased by 15.5% over the same period; of which, travel services increased sharply by 27.7%, accommodation and dining increased by 25.5%.
Retail sales of goods in July 2025 alone are estimated at VND 82,720 billion, accounting for 51.7% of total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue, up 4.7% over the previous month and up 16.2% over the same period.
