Visiting Nguyen Tri Phuong market (District 10) to buy food for her family of 5, Ms. Le Ngoc Diep (living in District 10) said that for the past week, she had to consider a lot when choosing food for her family. "The price of pork has increased sharply, some types of green vegetables have also increased in price by 5,000-10,000 VND/kg. Going to the market now also takes a lot of time because I have to think a lot, which type is cheaper will I choose" - Ms. Ngoc Diep said.
According to Lao Dong's records at traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City, other items such as pork, vegetables, rice, sugar, cooking oil, etc. have also increased in price compared to early December 2024.
Ms. Bui Thi Nhan - a trader at Ba Chieu market (Binh Thanh district) said: "Near Tet, almost all products have increased in price, from milk, cooking oil, rice... green vegetables also have increased in price by about 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg compared to a month ago" - Ms. Nhan said.
At the Hoc Mon agricultural unit market, the price of live pigs fluctuates between 68,000 and 70,000 VND/kg, depending on the type. This has led to an increase in the price of pork by 10,000 to 20,000 VND/kg compared to half a month ago. This price is expected to increase further in the coming days.
According to Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan - Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association, the high pork price is only a short-term trend. The price of live pigs may peak at 70,000 VND/kg at the peak before Tet, but will level off when processing demand decreases and new batches of pigs are released to the market.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office, the market stabilization policy has contributed to price stability. However, the price increases of some commodities have significantly impacted the average increase in the consumer price index in 2024.
In particular, in the fourth quarter, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the area reached VND 335,726 billion, up 11.4% over the same period last year. For the whole year of 2024, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue is estimated at VND 1,205,309 billion, up 10.5% over last year.
