According to information from the Customs Department, on April 2, 2026, Sub-Department of Customs Region IX (Lao Bao International Border Gate Customs) coordinated with the Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station and the Department of Investigation of Corruption, Economic, Smuggling, and Environmental Crimes - Quang Tri Provincial Police to discover and arrest subject Ho Viet Kham (residing in Vo Phuc An village, Trieu Binh commune, Quang Tri province).
The subject used a SITRAK tractor-trailer (Lao license plate No. 9295), pulling a KAMAZ semi-trailer (Lao license plate No. 5579), reinforced with a cylindrical metal box along the edge to contain liquid in order to hide and illegally transport goods through Lao Bao international border gate.
The seized exhibits are a liquid suspected to be diesel oil originating from Vietnam, with a volume of 1,290 liters, with a total estimated value of about 46.44 million VND. Currently, the case is being further investigated and clarified by functional agencies to handle according to the provisions of law.
Previously, functional forces in the Lao Bao international border gate area also discovered and handled a serious case related to illegal transportation of weapons and substances suspected to be drugs.
Accordingly, on the morning of March 27, 2026, the Lao Bao International Border Gate Customs Control force coordinated with the Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard force to inspect and supervise entering transport vehicles. Through luggage scanning activities, the Customs force discovered a suspicious baggage package containing an object shaped like a handgun.
Through inspection of vehicles with Lao license plates, customs officials discovered that the luggage package contained in a transparent nylon bag had unusual images through a scanner. Functional forces conducted vehicle examination and actual inspection of the package.
The inspection results revealed 1 handgun, with BRCN934 and GLOCK43X/AUSTRIA 9x19 symbols on the body, containing 7 bullets, hidden in clothing pockets. Through screening, functional forces determined that the luggage belonged to a passenger residing in Gia Lai province traveling on the above vehicle. Working with functional agencies, the subject admitted that he had brought the exhibits from Laos to Vietnam.
Continuing to expand the inspection, functional forces discovered more suspected drugs including MDMA, Ketamine and Methamphetamine with a total weight of 23.17 grams.
Currently, the case has been handed over by Lao Bao International Border Gate Customs to Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station for further investigation and handling according to the provisions of law.
