Entering today's trading session (August 6), the stock market quickly regained its green color right at the opening thanks to the support of some bluechip stocks. However, due to market sentiment still being cautious, VN-Index is unlikely to accelerate and only after a short time of opening, the general index has returned to a slight tug-of-war around the reference area due to increased selling pressure.
The stock that regularly plays a role in supporting the market, VIC, became the strongest pulling down factor when it took away more than 2 points of VN-Index. Followed by a series of bank stocks. Being simultaneously under pressure from large-cap stocks and the banking group caused the general index to decrease quite sharply.
Developments on the HoSE scoreboard clearly reflect the dominance of sellers with 211 declining stocks, while only 107 increased and 50 remained unchanged. The VN30 basket also sank into red when up to 25/30 stocks decreased.
At the end of the session, VN-Index lost 11.68 points (-0.66%), falling to 1,764 points. Market liquidity decreased significantly compared to the previous session. On HoSE, the trading value reached more than 15,000 billion VND, equivalent to 578.8 million shares traded.
Weakening cash flow is partly due to foreign investors returning to net selling. During the session, foreign investors net sold nearly 120 billion VND on HoSE. Among them, the 2 stocks under the strongest selling pressure were VHM and VPB, with net selling values of over 100 billion VND each. In the opposite direction, VIC was net bought the strongest with a value of about 228 billion VND.
After 2 quite impressive August opening sessions, the VN-Index has moved to a state of fluctuation and slight correction due to increased selling pressure as the market entered a strong resistance zone of 1,780-1,800 points. Although general market sentiment has somewhat improved since the end of July, technical signals are still not enough to confirm the reversal of the medium-term trend.
Especially market liquidity, in recent recovery sessions, the trading value on the HoSE exchange has not yet exceeded the level of 20,000 billion VND. According to analysts, if cash flow is not strong enough to absorb short-term supply, then VN-Index is likely to enter a stage of accumulation or adjustment.
Analysts from TPS Securities Company believe that the possibility of VN-Index entering a period of accumulation or correction in the short term is assessed higher. The nearest support zone is determined in the range of 1,735 points.
From May 2026 to now, VN-Index still maintains the model of the previous peak being lower than the previous peak and the subsequent bottom being lower than the previous bottom. Therefore, TPS said that the market is likely to need more accumulation time before a sustainable upward trend can be formed. Investors should prioritize risk management, maintain a reasonable proportion of stocks and limit increasing positions when the index is operating in a strong resistance zone.
Short-term views are more cautious about market developments. Although the recovery from the end of July has significantly improved investor sentiment, the current technical signals are still not enough to confirm the reversal of the medium-term trend," said experts at TPS.
SHS Securities Company forecasts that VN-Index may be under pressure to fluctuate and accumulate around the support zone of 1,750-1,770 points. SHS has recommended not to chase buying when VN-Index is heading towards the resistance zone around 1,800 points. Investors should consider portfolio restructuring, reducing the proportion of speculation. A reasonable proportion can consider accumulating quality, leading stocks with outstanding business results when the market is under pressure to fluctuate and adjust.
