Ho Chi Minh City plans that the pilot phase of pork trading through the platform will start from December 1, 2025, applied to a limited scale with a number of large enterprises participating. When the trading floor comes into operation, the entire buying and selling process will be done through an electronic, public and transparent system.
As one of the main wholesale markets supplying pork to Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Le Van Tien - Director of Hoc Mon wholesale market - said that when the trading floor comes into operation, the entire buying and selling process will be done through an electronic, public and transparent system. This not only helps manage effectively but also reduces speculation and manipulation of meat prices in the market.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tri Cong - Chairman of Dong Nai Livestock Association, if organized systematically, data from the trading floor will also help management agencies analyze supply - demand, forecast prices, thereby being able to flexibly and promptly regulate the market in the face of fluctuations. For businesses, the exchange creates opportunities to expand the market, increase competitiveness; for livestock farmers, help stabilize output, minimize the risk of price fluctuations.
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung has directed relevant departments, branches and units to proactively coordinate and support the Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Commodity Exchange of Vietnam (MXV) in implementing the pilot.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment (DONRE) will share information about enterprises, livestock units, and slaughterhouses in the city with MXV to select and invite reputable, standard units to participate in the pilot. The Department also supports XV in developing a set of criteria and disease safety control procedures for pork traded on the platform.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development shall preside over and coordinate with relevant units to strengthen inspection and control of epidemic safety, prevent smuggled pigs and poor quality pigs (using banned substances in livestock farming, pumping water, using sedatives, etc.). At the same time, the department strictly controls information on the origin of pigs before slaughtering, handles and publicly disclose information about violators according to regulations.
The wholesale markets are assigned to coordinate with MXV to select and introduce pork traders to participate in the pilot and share data on pork trading at the market with MXV. This is to serve the development of processes, transaction regulations and market management and supervision mechanisms. At the same time, the markets will arrange locations to install screens displaying pork trading activities on the platforms to publicize information.
The Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Association will coordinate with VBSP in training, coaching, updating systems and root traceability software for participating entities. The Association also deploys a system for managing the herd and epidemic information for livestock units participating in the trading floor.
The e-pork trading floor model is expected to be a new step forward in the digital transformation of the agricultural and commercial sector of Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to building a safe, transparent and sustainable food supply chain.
