On July 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department informed that recently Market Management Team No. 18 had a surprise inspection of a business in Binh Hoa ward. Through inspection, functional forces discovered 5,436 unused clothing products showing signs of counterfeiting the trademark of a famous brand, with a total appraisal value of more than 9.5 billion VND.
Working with the inspection team, the business representative said that the goods were provided by partners with samples, semi-finished products and accessories for processing according to the contract. However, the business could not present documents proving the legal origin of the goods. Through verification with the trademark owner, all products were identified as counterfeit goods.
Expanding the investigation, functional forces continued to discover that the enterprise had previously implemented contracts to process nearly 13,000 products of the same type. According to the valuation certificate, the total value of goods of the entire case amounted to more than 35.6 billion VND.
With the large value of goods as well as the nature of the case showing signs of crime, Market Management Team No. 18 has transferred the entire file to the investigating agency for further clarification and handling according to the provisions of law.
In the coming time, the market management force will continue to focus on combating acts of producing and trading in counterfeit goods and goods infringing intellectual property rights. Strengthening market situation grasp, coordination between the market management force and the police and functional agencies will be deployed regularly to promptly detect and prevent violations right from the production stage.
