This Christmas, many streets in Hai Duong City sell a variety of items for people to enjoy Christmas such as clothes, Christmas hats, snow gloves, two-way pine trees, pine trees with LED lights, three-layer pine trees, red pine trees, hair bows or decorative accessories such as balls, reindeer, laurel wreaths...
Christmas gift items are also diverse in design and color sold on the market such as snow globes, Santa Claus, snowmen, miniature landscapes, Christmas cards... which are sought by young people as gifts for relatives and friends.
In addition to souvenirs, Christmas-decorated cookies, jelly cakes, and cakes are also popular with consumers. Bakeries in Hai Duong City sell beautiful Christmas cakes, attracting many customers to choose from.
Ms. Tran Ngoc Tran (Binh Han Ward, Hai Duong City) said: "Our family is Catholic, so every year on Christmas, my children and I go to the stores on Tran Hung Dao Street and Ho Chi Minh Avenue to buy things to decorate the house. This year we chose to buy a Christmas tree, a snowman and clothes for the children to wear to go out for Christmas."
Small traders complain of unsold goods.
Despite selling a variety of Christmas items at affordable prices, many retailers in Hai Duong City are complaining about unsold products because consumer purchasing power this year is lower than previous years.
Having been trading on Ho Chi Minh Avenue for over 40 years, Ms. Dang Thi Phuc said that if in previous years, she sold 1-2 million VND worth of goods each day, this year, she only sold 100,000-200,000 VND.
"My family has 3 stalls selling Christmas items. This year I have imported many new items but the number of customers is still sparse. Customers usually only come in larger numbers in the evening.
Because the street is crowded and there is a construction site near my house, people are afraid of dust and stop to park their cars. Therefore, the number of customers has decreased significantly," said Ms. Phuc.
On Tran Hung Dao Street, Ms. Tran Bich Hop, who has been selling toys and decorative accessories for many years, said: "Prices this year are not more expensive than last year. Each product ranges from 100,000-300,000 VND, accessories from 20,000-40,000 VND. However, there are not many customers coming to buy.
Nowadays, most young people buy and sell on e-commerce platforms. Therefore, traditional businesses like ours are sluggish.
After Christmas, some retailers said they would immediately prepare goods for Lunar New Year, and Christmas items could be kept until next year to continue selling.
