Vegetable prices cool down slightly but still high
Recorded at Nguyen Tri Phuong market, Ban Co, Hoa Hao... many traders said that the price of green vegetables has started to decrease by 2,000 - 10,000 VND/kg compared to a few days ago. Green cabbage is 26,000 VND/kg, sweet cabbage is 25,000 VND/kg, and gourd is 25,000 VND/kg. Trader Nguyen Thanh Van said that vegetables from Da Lat have decreased sharply, goods are arriving late and not enough, causing import prices to increase by one and a half to double. "We have to sell high when we import a lot, because we are really afraid of regular customers" - she shared.
At Thu Duc wholesale market, the amount of vegetables arriving reached 1,578 tons/night, a slight increase compared to last weekend. Some items have been reduced: Da Lat spinach and lettuce is down 70,000 VND/kg (down 10,000 VND), mustard is down 30,000 VND/kg (down 5,000 VND). However, the price is still 20,000 30,000 VND/kg higher than in early November.
Gardeners and vegetable cooperatives in Lam Dong are expanding their growing area, urgently planting short-term vegetables to restore output and supplement supply for the Southern market in the next few weeks.
Ho Chi Minh City deploys a series of stabilization solutions
Faced with price fluctuations, Saigon Co.op has coordinated with suppliers to maintain a source of temperate vegetables from Da Lat, while also consuming tropical leafy vegetables to stabilize the supply. MM Mega Market Vietnam said that shipments from Da Lat are being served on priority routes, ensuring additional support for the Southern and Northern markets.
Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Nguyen Phuong said that in addition to the impact of floods, vegetable prices have also increased due to some cases of "patching water in the rain". He requested distribution systems to forecast demand early, develop reasonable reserve plans and absolutely not allow supply disruptions or unreasonable price increases. Supermarkets and retail chains are required to find alternative sources of goods from localities less affected by storms; at the same time, closely coordinate with suppliers to ensure agricultural products for Tet.
For wholesale markets, the Department of Industry and Trade proposes to strengthen supervision of import-export goods, coordinate with traders to coordinate goods sources, and ensure adequate supply of essential goods. The market management board must strictly inspect price listings and strictly handle cases of hoarding and unreasonable price increases.
Enterprises under the market stabilization program are required to comply with correct registration, proactively create goods and prioritize vegetable and fruit groups. The sales point system must display enough goods, clearly list them and sell them at the correct price.
With the synchronous participation of management agencies and the distribution system, Ho Chi Minh City aims to maintain supply and demand, limit price increases and ensure that people do not lack goods at the end of the year.
