The scale of the retail e-commerce market in Vietnam reaches over 25 billion USD
This message was emphasized at the "E-commerce Conference - Diversifying export markets and Applying digital technology for businesses", held on September 5, 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City within the framework of the Vietnam International Sourcing 2025 event Chain, chaired by the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade).
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Ms. Lai Viet Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade said that in 2024, the scale of the retail e-commerce market in Vietnam will reach over 25 billion USD, an increase of more than 20% over the previous year and account for about 9% of the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue nationwide.
The leader of the E-commerce and Investment Management Department emphasized: E-commerce is not only a growth driver but also a solid foundation for the breakthrough of the national digital economy. The increasing presence of Vietnamese goods on international e-commerce channels has been opening up great opportunities to diversify export markets, improve resilience to global fluctuations and increase national brand value".

Ms. Lai Viet Anh also believes that digital technology is an important lever for the development of e-commerce. The application of technologies such as AI, Big Data and IoT will help businesses optimize operations, reduce costs, analyze market trends accurately and build smart approach strategies, thereby improving product quality to meet the strict requirements of the international market.
With this view, Mr. Nick Chai - Chairman of ACBC Malaysia commented that Vietnam has many advantages to become a cross-border e-commerce hub of the region thanks to its strategic geographical location, rich supply of goods, young population and strong support policies from the Government. This is considered a " lever" to help Vietnamese enterprises break through and increase international competitiveness.

Big opportunities from the multi-channel e-commerce model
From an international perspective, Mr. Xiao Qiuli - General Director of Quang Dong Global Shopping E-commerce Company Limited (GGBingo) said that Vietnam is facing a great opportunity to accelerate exports thanks to the multi-channel e-commerce model.
Mr. Xiao Qiuli cited the experience of China, the country that reached 2.71 trillion yuan in cross-border e-commerce turnover in 2024 thanks to the development of logistics, export warehouses and modern technology platforms. According to him, Vietnamese enterprises can take advantage of this model to quickly improve global competitiveness.

At the same time, shifting from OEM to D2C to build a "Made in Vietnam" brand, combined with effective exploitation of Amazon, TikTok Shop, Lazada, Shopee, JD.com channels... will help increase coverage and optimize sales. In particular, investing in international logistics and training cross-border e-commerce human resources will be the foundation for Vietnamese goods to reach further and participate more deeply in the global supply chain.
This view is also agreed by many domestic speakers. Ms. Vu Xuan Linh, Director of Strategic Partnership (Vietnam), Sea Group, Singapore affirmed that the ASEAN market is the digital border for small businesses, cooperatives and business households participating in cross-border e-commerce. This is not only a dynamic area with increased purchasing power, but also a certified destination for Vietnamese goods, especially in key markets such as Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.
Through programs such as Shopee International Platform (SIP), more than 350,000 SMEs have participated in online exports, taking advantage of the integrated logistics, payment and customer service ecosystem to " sit in one place - sell globally". Value-added services such as automatic translation, optimized product display, inventory control and customer service in indigenous languages significantly reduce barriers when expanding to the region.
