At the Press Conference announcing the Sustainable Agricultural Value Chain Development Strategy for the period 2026 - 2036, 2 large corporations announced the sustainable agricultural value chain development strategy for the period 2026 - 2036 with a total expected investment capital of about 18,300 billion VND, concentrated in Tay Ninh and Gia Lai. The projects aim to expand the livestock ecosystem, develop a linkage chain from breeds, animal feed to slaughtering, processing and export.
Business representatives affirmed that Vietnam's livestock industry still has a lot of development potential. The fact that domestic and foreign businesses continue to expand investment in this field shows the attractiveness of the market, and also reflects expectations for the long-term growth potential of Vietnam's livestock industry.
Along with the rate of urbanization, people's incomes increase and food consumption demand increases, the domestic market is considered to have more room to expand. In addition, deeper participation in modern production chains also opens up the possibility of increasing added value for livestock products.
However, great potential also comes with many challenges. Vietnam's livestock industry has faced scattered production, loose chain links, high input costs, epidemic pressure and increasingly strict requirements from the market for many years.
At the press conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien said that the participation of businesses is becoming one of the driving forces to promote the livestock industry to shift towards industry, modernity and sustainability. According to the Deputy Minister, if previously small-scale production accounted for a large proportion, now the industry structure is gradually changing thanks to the stronger participation of chain-invested businesses.

In recent years, animal husbandry has accounted for 25 - 26% of the total value of the agricultural sector, it can be said that animal husbandry has been developing at a high rate in recent times. The orientation is for the state to create a stage, science to be a pioneer, businesses to compete, farmers to benefit. We have the 2018 Law on Animal Husbandry, Decree, 5 projects on breeds, nutritious feed, slaughtering and processing, environment, equipment and high-quality human resources. These 5 projects have created a legal framework for businesses to closely follow and implement," Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien also added that in the first 2 months of 2026, the livestock industry exported over 140 million USD, an increase of over 60%. "With this momentum, in addition to exporting 1.7 billion USD of animal feed, we will reach the milestone of 1 billion USD of animal and animal products exports in 2027," the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment shared.
The Deputy Minister also expressed his expectation that amidst challenges from the international and domestic levels, with the direction from Party and State leaders, agriculture in general can still maintain a growth momentum of 3.7 - 3.9% in the coming period.
