At the regular press conference for the fourth quarter of 2024 and a press meeting on the occasion of the new year 2025, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hien - Deputy Director of the Domestic Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that since 2018, E5 bio-fuel has been widely sold in the national market, but the consumption trend is decreasing.
Explaining this, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hien said there are three main reasons. Firstly, the price difference between E5 gasoline and mineral gasoline is not much, so it has not encouraged and attracted consumers to use this type of gasoline.
Second, the communication problem has not been achieved to make consumers trust and use E5 gasoline.
Third, with the current economic development, consumers have more modern vehicles so they use more types of gasoline with higher quality.
Previously, implementing Decision No. 53/2012/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on promulgating a roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued a Directive to implement Resolution No. 53/2012/QD-TTg.
In this directive, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has assigned tasks to units under the Ministry and agencies, departments of industry and trade, and petroleum traders to organize the implementation of this content.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has also issued many documents urging and directing businesses, distributors and petroleum units to implement, trade, consume and distribute E5 gasoline.
Many solutions to encourage people to use E5 gasoline
Faced with the downward trend of E5 gasoline consumption, the Domestic Market Department has advised the Minister of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued documents and directives to promote the consumption of E5 gasoline. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has assigned the Department of Science and Technology to be the unit in charge of implementing Decision 53/2012/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, to summarize and comprehensively evaluate the implementation of the Decision on promulgating the roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels, thereby, summarizing and reporting to the Prime Minister for consideration.
Also related to E5 gasoline, speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said that in order to develop E5 bio-fuel, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has carried out a lot of work recently.
"Even in the issue of managing gasoline prices and managing supply and demand, the Ministry of Industry and Trade always requires creating room to encourage consumers to use E5 gasoline" - Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated.
According to experts, E5 biofuel is a fuel containing 5% bioethanol by volume and 95% traditional gasoline by volume. Currently, bioethanol in Vietnam is mainly produced from the main raw material of dried cassava chips. Biofuel has been used in many countries around the world for many years. This is considered a solution to protect the environment and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
In addition to environmental protection benefits, many studies have shown that using E5 biofuel also brings many benefits to the vehicle engine. In addition, using E5 biofuel helps ensure energy security, not being dependent on fuel imports, curbing the increase in oil prices, and stabilizing the energy situation.
