USD prices increased as investors expressed concern about the comments of US Treasury Secretary quan quan Yellen about interest rates possibly increasing if the economy develops hotly.
The USD/JPY pair is stable at 109.32.
The AUD/USD pair increased by 0.35% while the USD/USD pair increased by 0.38%.
The stronger US dollar has put pressure on the Euro to depreciate and threaten to continue to fall below the important support level of 1,200 USD.
Yellen's comments suggest that raising interest rates is necessary to keep the economy from getting too hot. This stimulates the USD price to increase strongly.
Ms. Yellen's comments immediately rocked the US stock market. Technology stocks fell sharply. Yellen later said she did not expect or recommend the US Federal Reserve (Fed) to raise interest rates. She stressed that she respect the independence of the Fed and would not make any policy recommendations.
The Fed has pledged to keep interest rates near 0% until the labor market recovers and inflation remains above the 2% target for some time, but experts and investors warn that government spending will increase inflation.
Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said the labor market still lacks much compared to the necessary level.
A remaining challenge for the dollar is that the US trade deficit rose to a record $74.4 billion in March.
"This will have an impact on the dollar as the US will increasingly depend on foreign long-term investments to finance the short-term account deficit... Therefore, we believe that the recent downward trend of the dollar will continue," economist Kim Mundy commented.
Online Kitco gold price is currently at 1776.90 - 1777.90 USD/ounce.
