On April 12, Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board - said that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway will be held on April 19, starting with a bomb and mine clearance package.
It is expected that on September 2, 2025, the project will continue to start construction of the residential access road and cross-over bridges, using state budget capital.
After that, the main expressway will be constructed from January 2026 under the form of a BOT (build - operate - transfer) contract and completed and put into operation by the end of 2027.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway Phase 1 has a total investment of more than VND 19,600 billion. Of which, the section passing through Ho Chi Minh City is more than 24.7 km long, passing through 11 communes of Cu Chi district.
The project was built in advance with a scale of 4 lanes. However, compensation and site clearance will be carried out once and for all on a complete scale for the entire 6-lane route, including residential access roads and major intersections such as Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, Provincial Road 8 and overpasses across the route.
The total land area affected by the project is about 220 hectares. Of which, the residential land area is about 6.1 ha; agricultural land is more than 190 ha; non-agricultural land other than land is about 1.4 ha,...
It is expected that about 2,177 households and organizations will be affected by land acquisition, of which 254 cases are eligible for resettlement land arrangement and about 178 cases are built on agricultural land.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has recently officially approved Component Project 3 - compensation, support and resettlement for the section passing through Ho Chi Minh City.
The total investment of this component project is more than VND 5,052 billion, including compensation, support and resettlement costs of more than VND 4,333 billion.
The compensation, support and resettlement plan will be prepared and approved in the second quarter of 2025. The compensation payment and handover of the site are expected to take place from the third quarter to the fourth quarter of 2025.
When completed by the end of 2027, the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway will become the shortest connecting route between Ho Chi Minh City and Moc Bai International Border Gate, contributing to reducing pressure on National Highway 22, while improving the capacity to transport goods and passengers between Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodia, promoting regional linkages and developing the regional economy.
According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City will have 5 key expressways connecting with the provinces.
In addition to the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway that is about to be broken ground, the city currently has two expressways put into operation.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is 55 km long, with an investment capital of more than VND 20,600 billion, exploited since 2016, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Southeast and Central Highlands provinces.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway is nearly 62 km long, with a scale of 4 lanes and 2 emergency lanes, and has been in use since 2010, creating a vital traffic axis to the West.
In addition, 2 other expressways are in the process of being implemented. The Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway is nearly 58 km long, passing through Long An, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, with a total investment of more than 30,000 billion VND. Currently, 2 sections have been opened to traffic, expected to open 2 more sections on April 30 and complete the entire route by 2026.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh Expressway, nearly 55 km long, passing through Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc, has started construction in early 2025, expected to be completed in 2027.
