The gearbox is one of the most important and complex parts of a car, taking on the role of transmission from the engine to the wheels.
However, many drivers are currently using the vehicle without paying due attention to the operation and maintenance of the gearbox, leading to rapid degradation.
Incorrect digital transformation
One of the common causes that make the gearbox broken is the habit of improper shift, especially with automatic transmission. The driver often switches from "D" (Drive) to "R" (Reverse) when the car has not stopped, or the word "P" (Park) to other modes while the legs are still braking. These actions create shock force on the gearbox, which will cause worn and damaged the gears inside.
German auto mechanics expert Karl Mertens - who has more than 20 years of experience in the field of automatic transmissions, commented:
The gearbox is designed to operate in smooth and controlled gear transfer conditions. Suddenly changing the number while the vehicle is still rolling is an action that can seriously damage the mechanical structure inside".
No regular exchange of gearbox oil
Transformer oil plays a lubricating, cooling and transformer role. However, many drivers have the mentality of no need to replace the gearbox oil or prolong the oil change cycle too long.
When the oil is oxidized, contaminated or loses viscosity, the ability to protect mechanical details is significantly reduced, leading to friction, heating and rapid wear and tear.
Some current models are advertised to use "life-time gearbox oil", but Mr. Mertens recommends that even if the manufacturer does not require oil changes, actual conditions such as hot and humid weather, traffic jams, and heavy loads still cause oil to deteriorate. Replacing the gearbox oil every 60,00080,000 km is necessary to prolong life.
Accelerate and brake frequently
Sudden acceleration or continuous sudden braking forces the transmission to adjust the transmission ratio continuously and quickly. This puts a lot of pressure on the clutches and hydraulic valves inside the gearbox, which in the long run reduces durability and performance.
Improper maintenance
Repairing, cleaning or replacing the gearbox oil incorrectly, such as using the wrong type of oil or not discharging all the old oil, is also a cause of damage. Some fake garages often ignore technical standards, seriously affecting future operation.
The gearboxes are parts that are difficult to repair, expensive and sensitive to how they are used. Therefore, changing operating habits, maintenance on schedule and techniques is a key factor to help the vehicle become more durable.
Dont wait until the gearbox makes a claim or the vehicle takes a check, its too late, Mr. Mertens warned.
