1. 1st National Congress of the Party (1935)
The first Party Congress was held from March 27-31, 1935, at a location in Macau (China). The Congress was attended by 13 delegates from domestic party committees and Party organizations operating abroad representing 552 party members throughout the Party.
The Congress elected the Party Central Committee. Comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc was appointed as representative of the Party at the Communist International. Comrade Le Hong Phong was elected as General Secretary of the Party.
The 1st Congress of the Party is an important historical event, marking the victory of the struggle to protect and restore the Party organization system from the Central to local levels, unifying the revolutionary movement under the leadership of the Party.
2. II National Congress of the Party (1951)
The II Party Congress took place from February 11 - 19, 1951, in Vinh Quang commune (later Kim Binh commune), Chiem Hoa district (old), Tuyen Quang province. Attending the Congress were 158 official delegates and 53 alternate delegates representing more than 766,349 party members throughout the Party.
The Congress set out two main tasks of the Party: Bringing the resistance war to complete victory and the organization of the Vietnam Labour Party.
The Congress elected a new Central Executive Committee consisting of 19 official members and 10 alternate members. The Executive Committee appointed a Politburo consisting of 7 official members and 1 alternate member. The Congress elected Comrade Ho Chi Minh as Chairman of the Party. The General Secretary is Comrade Truong Chinh.
3. 3rd National Congress of the Party (1960)
The 3rd National Party Congress was held from September 5 - 10, 1960, in Hanoi Capital. Attending the Congress were 525 official delegates and 51 alternate delegates, representing more than 500,000 party members nationwide.
President Ho Chi Minh read the opening speech, in which he clearly stated: "This Congress is a congress to build socialism in the North and fight for national peace and reunification.
The Congress elected a new Central Executive Committee consisting of 47 official members and 31 alternate members; the Politburo consisting of 11 members and 2 alternate members. Comrade Ho Chi Minh was re-elected as Chairman of the Party. Comrade Le Duan was elected as the First Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Party.
4. 4th National Party Congress (1976)
From December 14 - 20, 1976, the 4th National Congress of Delegates met in Hanoi. The Congress was attended by 1,008 delegates representing more than 1.5 million party members nationwide.
The Congress elected a new Central Executive Committee consisting of 101 official members and 32 alternate members. The Central Executive Committee held the First Conference to elect the Politburo consisting of 14 official members and 3 alternate members. Comrade Le Duan was elected as General Secretary of the Party Central Committee.
The Congress decided to change the name of the Vietnam Workers' Party to the Communist Party of Vietnam.
5. 5th National Party Congress (1982)
The 5th National Party Congress took place in Hanoi Capital from March 27 - 31, 1982. The Congress was attended by 1,033 delegates representing more than 1.7 million Party members throughout the Party.
The Congress set out two strategic tasks for the entire people and army in the new revolutionary period: "First, to successfully build socialism; Second, to be ready to fight and firmly protect the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland". Along with the implementation of two strategic tasks, it is necessary to always strengthen solidarity with socialist countries.
The Congress elected the Central Executive Committee, term V, consisting of 152 comrades, including 116 official members and 36 alternate members. The First Conference of the Central Executive Committee term V elected the Politburo consisting of 13 official members, 2 alternate members. Comrade Le Duan was elected to continue as General Secretary.
6. 6th National Party Congress (1986)
The 6th National Party Congress took place in Hanoi Capital from December 15 - 18, 1986. Attending the Congress were 1,129 delegates representing nearly 1.9 million party members throughout the Party.
The 6th Party Congress elected a new Central Executive Committee consisting of 124 official members and 49 alternate members. The 1st Central Conference elected the Politburo consisting of 13 official members and 1 alternate member. Comrade Nguyen Van Linh was elected as General Secretary of the Party Central Executive Committee.
The VI Congress of the Party has a great historical significance, marking a turning point in the process of transition to socialism of our country. This is the Congress initiating and leading the cause of national renovation.




7. 7th National Party Congress (1991)
The 7th National Party Congress took place in Hanoi Capital from June 24 - 27, 1991. Attending the Congress were 1,176 delegates, representing more than 2.1 million Party members.
The Congress elected the 7th Central Executive Committee consisting of 146 comrades. The first Central Conference elected the Politburo consisting of 13 comrades. Comrade Do Muoi was elected as General Secretary of the Party Central Executive Committee.
The VII Congress is of great significance, continuing to affirm, supplement and develop the direction of renovation, planning the transition path to socialism in accordance with Vietnam's characteristics.
8. 8th National Party Congress (1996)
The 8th National Party Congress met from June 28 - July 1, 1996. Attending the Congress were 1,196 party members representing nearly 2.13 million party members throughout the Party.
The Congress elected the Central Executive Committee (VIII term) consisting of 170 comrades. At the First Conference, the VIII Central Executive Committee elected the Politburo consisting of 19 comrades. Comrade Do Muoi was re-elected as General Secretary of the Party Central Committee.
The 8th National Party Congress is of great historical significance, promoting comprehensive and synchronous renovation, shifting the country to a new era - a period of accelerating industrialization and modernization.
9. 9th National Party Congress (2001)
The IX National Party Congress took place in Hanoi Capital from April 19 - 22, 2001. The Congress was attended by 1,168 delegates representing nearly 2.5 million Party members throughout the Party.
The Congress advocates promoting the strength of the entire nation, continuing to innovate, promote industrialization and modernization, and build and protect the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
The Congress elected the Central Executive Committee (IX term) consisting of 150 members. At the First Conference, the Central Executive Committee elected the Politburo consisting of 15 members. Comrade Nong Duc Manh was elected to hold the position of General Secretary of the Party Central Committee.
10. 10th National Party Congress (2006)
The 10th National Congress of Delegates took place from April 18 - 25, 2006, in Hanoi Capital. Attending the Congress were 1,176 delegates, representing more than 3.1 million party members throughout the Party.
The Congress passed the full text of the Charter of the Communist Party of Vietnam that has been supplemented and amended. The Congress elected the 10th Central Executive Committee consisting of 160 official members and 21 alternate members. The First Conference of the Central Executive Committee elected the Politburo consisting of 14 members. Comrade Nong Duc Manh continued to be elected to hold the position of General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Party.
11. 11th National Party Congress (2011)
The 11th National Party Congress took place from January 12 - 19, 2011 in Hanoi Capital. Attending the Congress were 1,377 delegates representing more than 3.6 million Party members throughout the Party.
The Congress summarized 20 years of implementing the Platform for building the country in the transition period to socialism (1991 - 2011) and 10 years of implementing the Socio-Economic Development Strategy (2001 - 2010). The Congress approved the Platform for building the country in the transition period to socialism (supplemented, developed 2011).
The Congress elected the Central Executive Committee (XI term) consisting of 200 members, with 175 official members and 25 alternate members. At the First Conference, the Central Executive Committee elected the Politburo consisting of 14 members. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong was elected to hold the position of General Secretary of the Party Central Executive Committee.
12. 12th National Party Congress (2016)
The 12th National Party Congress was held from January 20 - 28, 2016, in Hanoi. The Congress was attended by 1,510 delegates, representing more than 4.5 million Party members throughout the Party.
The theme of the Congress is "Strengthening the building of a clean and strong Party; promoting the strength of the entire nation, social democracy; promoting comprehensively and synchronously the renovation process; firmly protecting the Fatherland, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; striving to soon make our country basically become an industrialized country in a modern direction".
The Congress elected the Central Executive Committee with 200 members, including 180 official members and 20 alternate members. The First Conference of the Central Executive Committee elected the Politburo with 19 members. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong continued to be elected to hold the position of General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Party.
13. 13th National Party Congress (2021)
The 13th National Party Congress took place from January 25 - February 1, 2021 in Hanoi Capital. The Congress was attended by 1,587 delegates, representing nearly 5.2 million party members throughout the Party.
The theme of the Congress is "Strengthening the construction and rectification of a clean and strong Party and political system; arousing the aspiration to develop the country, promoting the will and strength of the great national unity combined with the strength of the times; continuing to comprehensively and synchronously promote the cause of renovation; building and firmly protecting the Fatherland, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; striving to become a developed country by the middle of the 21st century, following socialist orientation".
The Congress elected the Central Executive Committee (XIII term) consisting of 200 members, including 180 official members and 20 alternate members. At the first Conference, the Central Executive Committee elected the Politburo consisting of 18 members. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong continued to be elected to hold the position of General Secretary of the Party Central Committee.
14. 14th National Party Congress (2026)
The 14th Party Congress will officially take place in Hanoi Capital, from January 19 - 25, 2026 with the motto "Unity, democracy, discipline, breakthrough, development". The 14th Party Congress will have the participation of 1,586 delegates, representing more than 5.6 million party members throughout the Party.
The theme of the Congress is "Under the glorious flag of the Party, joining hands and hearts, successfully implementing the goal of developing the country to 2030, confidently and self-reliantly stepping into the era of national rise, for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, prosperity, civilization, happiness, steadily advancing towards socialism".
The 14th Party Congress is an important political event of the Party, a great event of the country; a special milestone on the path of development, opening a new era, the "era of national rise".
