Korean actor Hwang Chansung: It would be an honor to have the opportunity to come to Vietnam to film

Participating in season 2 of "Bloodhounds" and impressing with intense, invested action scenes. What do you think is the most important thing when performing these action scenes and how did you prepare to complete the role?

- First of all, I have to know how to use my body really well. Because the coordinated movements are all arranged before filming, I need to remember that series of movements very carefully, and practice techniques many times.

Only when prepared like that, when filming at the studio, the action scenes can reach accuracy and bring emotions into the acting.

For me, to have realistic acting, in addition to careful preparation both physically and mentally, I have to constantly think about the character. I have perfected the background of the character Yoon Tae Geom within myself.

During the exchange with the director, we thought together: "How should Yoon Tae Geom's story be built?", and first I tried to complete the character closely following the script.

Then, when entering real-life filming, I try to immerse myself to vividly express Yoon Tae Geom's emotions in each situation - how the character will feel, in what state when saying those lines. When fully immersed in the character's emotions, I will express the true quality of Yoon Tae Geom.

In action scenes, both authenticity and safety are important. How do you calculate between "reality" and "safety" when filming?

- Safety is always the most important thing. If you are injured, it will seriously affect not only the production schedule but also subsequent plans.

I think, to make the action scenes realistic, the important thing is the amount of time to practice in coordination with the co-star. When practicing a lot, both will understand "how the other person will move in this situation", thereby forming a common action rhythm.

It must be affirmed that the entire atmosphere at the film studio, the training atmosphere, and the preparation of the cast are very dedicated, meticulous, and coordinated well. In this film, we almost do not use stuntmen. The cast directly performs the entire action scene. This is also a new experience for me as an actor.

Currently an entertainment star in both music and film in Korea, how do you see the opportunities for cooperation in other countries, including Vietnam?

- For artists, being able to operate abroad is a big advantage. I used to operate in Japan and tour abroad with 2PM. It was really a new experience, and meeting fans in each country is very interesting, I am really grateful.

If I have the opportunity to come to Vietnam to film, for me it is an honor. I heard that many Vietnamese actors not only act in movies but also sing, produce and have many different talents.

Because I also work in many fields, I think it would be interesting if we could cooperate in performances, movies or dramas.

From a personal perspective, how do you assess the impact of OTT platforms (online movies), short-form (short video, short films)... on cultural industries such as cinema?

- I think that is an inevitable change and will have a certain impact. Generations change, so quality, production methods, content color... also change accordingly, so actors also need to act in accordance with that trend.

Currently, many drama series (long-running TV series) have a much more cinematic style, so actors' acting requires more realisticness.

Compared to the acting style in old TV series, currently, truly feeling the emotions of the character is more convincing at the film studio. I think that is the biggest change.

In your opinion, what is the most important factor for a Korean-Vietnamese cooperation project to be successful?

- When collaborating together in a project, it means that two different cultures are blending together. If both sides do not lose the message or core story that the work wants to convey, then I think it will create good results.

Belief is very important, but equally important is whether after cooperation, a good work can be created or not? Even if a Korean-Vietnamese project has not achieved success in terms of revenue, but still retains the meaningful message of the work - I think that is already very precious.

For you, what are the criteria to evaluate the success of a film work? Revenue or script?

- Actually, it is very difficult to define a successful work. For actors, if the character leaves an impression, that is already a success. For directors and producers, a successful film may have to consider revenue, quality, and spread. I think that the standards of success or failure of each person are different.

I always hope that all the works I participate in will be successful, but in reality, it's not always like that. After each project, when the work is released, I review the film and often constantly think about what I still lack as well as what I need to improve.

I always ask the question: "Why am I acting like that?", then I realize that the role still has regrettable things.

I don't think that work is bad, but I have to be more honest with myself, telling myself that I need to develop further to get better results.

Perhaps for actors, the definition of success is whether their character leaves a mark in the hearts of the audience or not?

The cultural industry is developing rapidly and generating huge profits. How does that affect the work of an actor, in your opinion?

- As the market expands, the number of works and diversity also increase. For me, that is a positive thing. Actors have more opportunities to work, more challenges. When competitiveness increases, it is also the time for actors to improve themselves, develop better skills.

As the film industry develops, there are more good works, it is also the time to need good actors. Film projects with large investments will carefully select actors.

That will be a competition for survival, if actors want to survive, they only have to try their best.
