She always strives to cultivate herself to get a role, and is not afraid to try her hand at roles with similar colors because she always cherishes the opportunities that come to her.
Hello Kieu My, in 2025, My made a quite impressive comeback with the role of Thu "baby" in the movie "One millimeter away from you". What made My decide to return after 2 years of absence on the small screen?
- Before that, after a regular filmmaking process, I took a break for about 2 years to spend time for myself. Then one day, Ms. Le Phuong Linh - the producer of the movie "One millimeter away from you" called me, asking how I was doing lately, whether I wanted to return to filmmaking or not? She said that the crew had a role that she found quite suitable for me and if I wanted to make a film, I could go to the radio to talk, see what my image is like lately?
At that time, I had also retired for more than 2 years and thought this was also the time I wanted to return to making films. After that, I went to the radio to talk to director Tran Trong Khoi. He also shared with me that "the role of Thu "bo" and Kieu My have a lot of harmony, so I participated in this role".
In addition, because the film has 2 generations of characters, childhood and adulthood, if I take on the role, the crew also has to find a small actor with similarities so that when the film airs, it will convince the audience more. When people sent the script, I read the first few episodes and really found the content very good. At that time, I thought: "Ah, here it is, this is probably the time when My really returns", and immediately received this script.
Before "One millimeter away from you", My also participated in quite a few movies such as "Zippo, Mustard and You", "A Lifetime of Resentment"... But it was not until the role of Thu "baby" that was truly a role remembered by many audiences. For My, what is the meaning of this role in her career?
- It is true that before participating in this movie, in previous projects, audiences usually only remembered the character's name. And each project usually only has a certain audience group. But in the movie "One millimeter away from you", the audience is very diverse, from children, young people, middle-aged people, even gentlemen and women also watch. I am very happy that the movie is so well received! For me, the character Thu is always a very special character and I am really grateful to Thu for helping me to be loved so much by the audience.
Where does My personally position herself in the golden hour film cast of VFC, because although you have acted in quite a few films, most audiences still think you are a young actress, a new face?
- Actually, from before until now, I have never thought about who I am or where I am in VFC's prime time movie. For me, what I always think is that I have to try, strive and improve every day.
Maybe because my starting point was an amateur actor, without formal training. After participating in my first movie "Marriage in a narrow alley", I suddenly realized that I loved this profession very much and wanted to stick with it for a long time. So with any project that comes to me, I cherish it very much.
Those times are opportunities for me to learn from veteran actors, senior artists, colleagues, uncles, and directors. That helps me accumulate a lot of experience. For me, no matter what age I am, I still have to learn and try harder than others because my starting point was just a non-professional actor.
I myself have followed Kieu My for a long time, since you were a photo model, a famous hot girl in Hanoi. Have you mentioned your first role in the movie "Marriage in a narrow alley", so what about that role, or what about the acting profession, makes you want to pursue it seriously and long-term?
- It's true that from childhood to adulthood, I never thought I would become an actress. But I studied art, so my childhood dream was to become a singer. When I finished high school, preparing for the graduation and university entrance exams, I had the opportunity to be invited by a guy from the film studio's production side to audition for the project.
At that time, I just thought that I had never been to a film studio before, had never met famous actors in real life, so I was very excited and went to casting. But after casting, I also shared that I am currently preparing for the graduation and university entrance exams, so I will not be able to participate in this film project, and then left in the surprise of everyone.
After finishing the university entrance exam, Uncle called again to ask me how my exams were going, whether everything was stable and whether I wanted to try my hand at filming again? Uncle said that maybe I would become attached to the profession. At that time, I thought maybe this was an opportunity for me to try my hand. So I went to casting again and was very lucky to get the role of Kieu Linh in the movie "Marriage in a narrow alley". During filming, I realized that I wanted to pursue and stick with the profession for a longer time.
Does My's family support your decision? Because the acting profession is really hard, you have to travel a lot, sometimes you work very late, sometimes you have to go very early...?
- Yes! My father has loved and pampered me from childhood to adulthood. When I go to school or participate in any class, or perform at the Children's Cultural Palace, my father is always the one who takes me and picks me up. So at first, my parents also felt sorry for their daughter.
But I am also very lucky because my parents are extremely understanding. Whatever profession or passion I like, my parents always support. Perhaps also because I am an independent person from an early age. When I know what I want, what I like, I always prove to my parents that I can do it. I think that is what makes my parents always trust and support me.
Does My herself often create pressure for herself like: "I must have a really good role, must have a really excellent role"? And when pressure comes, how does My overcome it?
- I think both I and all actors want to have good, diverse roles to try ourselves out. But if you say that you must have roles immediately to move forward faster, then from my point of view - a non-professional actor - I can be slow but sure.
From the first movie until now, the audience can see me playing roles with similarities. But I am not afraid of that and I still accept, because I always cherish every opportunity that comes to me. I think that as soon as that opportunity comes, I cherish, cherish and complete that role well, it is happiness. And in the movie "One millimeter away from you", I think I have proven everyone my maturity in the profession, that I can completely do well in roles that the audience never thought I could do before.
