Nguyen Manh Duy - founder of Om Himalayas: From the revolutionary bell of Tibet to healing concert

NGUYÊN LÊ (thực hiện) |

With the mountain climbing community as well as audio therapy in Vietnam, Nguyen Manh Duy is a familiar name. The recent person who successfully conquered the "roof of the world" Everett was also the one who performed the first healing concert held in Vietnam called "Sound Healing Concert 2025 - Journey into Silence" (September 6-7, in Ho Chi Minh City).

Before the show, Nguyen Manh Duy talked with Lao Dong Newspaper about the wonderful charm that he and his partner received from the mysterious land of the Himalayas and how they wanted to put it behind what they received.

The magical rotating bell

What fate brought the two on the journey to bring the Himalaya bell to Vietnam 10 years ago?

- In 2014, I had a special fate to set foot in the Himalaya for the first time, and then a series of fates brought me to the sacred and mysterious culture of this land.

During my journey to explore the Himalaya culture, I was exposed to many items, cultural products as well as handicrafts of Nepal, Tibet... Among them, the rotating bell is one of the items that has a special attraction for me.

Behind the rotating bell in Nepal is an interesting story, associated with a very unique treatment method of the local people. This method is used by experts and masters here to bring more physical and mental energy, happiness and peace to people.

In 2016, we introduced a rotating bell therapy center in Vietnam for the first time at 256 Pasteur, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City. This is the first rotating bell therapy center in Vietnam organized on a large scale and professionally.

After 10 years, rotating bells have become a fairly common method in Vietnam.

From a strange treatment method to a popular tool in a healthy community, after 10 years, it is not easy to turn strange into familiar?

- It's been a long journey for everyone, from initial curiosity, to gradually receive the rotating bell. Because before Om Himalayas, no unit had introduced the rotating bell systematically, both in practice and theory, as well as introduced the masters who are popularising this method around the world.

We have been very persistent in bringing the bell to the community interested in practicing therapy - healing, in many subjects: Ring bell to yoga, to wellness centers, to high-end resorts for customers to experience. In addition, rotating bells are also used in meditation and retreat...

Each year, the rotating bell has more diverse applications, thanks to the efforts of not only Om Himalayas but also experts in many fields. Nowadays, rotating bells are applied in a very diverse way in Vietnam.

In the 10-year journey, we have also experienced many lessons, obstacles, and even trials. Bringing a new subject - especially a subject related to energy - we also have to study and improve our own knowledge a lot. We always keep in mind: The rotating bell must first bring balance to the lives of the founding team, who have chosen this method. When we have balance and peace, we can share that with more people.

awakening the "forgotten treasure"

How was the idea of performing "Sound Healing Concert" formed?

- Sound Healing Concert 2025 comes at the right time when we mark the milestone of a decade of the journey back to Himalaya. It is because of such a shared relationship that we organized the program with the desire to share more of Himalaya energy with a wide public community.

Accompanying us this time will be famous Nepalese artists and artisans such as Ms. Ani Choying Drolma - the leading legendary Mantra Healing singer or the artisan who made and performed the Master Santa Ratnasakya rotating bell. On the Vietnamese side, there is saxophone artist Tran Manh Tuan - who played music at the Boudhanath shrine on the Cultural Heritage of the World; also a rotating bell practitioner, thanks to which he has regained his balance after struggling with serious illnesses. Accompanying him were choreographer Tan Loc and musician Ngo Hong Quang in the role of director and music director.

With the participation of talented artists and craftsmen from Nepal and talented artists from Vietnam, "Sound Healing Concert 2025" promises to bring a music program of energy, sound and good old memories.

How is "healing music" different from previous "sound baths"?

- With "Sound Healing Concert 2025", for the first time we want to bring a new experience to those who have trusted and practiced rotating bell therapy.

"Sound Healing" here can be understood as sounds that bring balanced energy, peace in our lives. Sound Healing Concert is not simply a workshop or a small-scale sharing session, but a concert program staged on a professional scale. For the first time in Vietnam, there is a "Sound Healing" program focusing mainly on energetic musical instruments, pure rustic traditional handicrafts.

Previously, we have also organized sound bath programs - free sharing workshops to the community so that everyone better knows the ability and energy that the rotating bell can bring. There, we can also lie and relax to receive the sound of the bell.

But this time is not just a reception, we want to have the resonance of a concert with thousands of participants. I believe that it will be a very interesting experience for those who are interested in rotating bells, both from the perspective of the recipient/receiving of rotating bells and the practitioners of audio-terapeutic practice - a community that is currently growing strongly and has very good practice to bring sound and vibration benefits to more and more people.

What made you decide to take the rotating bell out of the therapy space to step onto the stage? This healing musical instrument will appear on stage in what combination of art and therapy?

- When bringing the bell to Vietnam, we determined that the first bell must bring benefits to each customer: Listening to the bell to relax, relieve stress, overcome depression, insomnia.

Over the long journey, we have not only practiced at Om Himalayas facilities but also widely shared this method through training programs from 2016 - 2017. Thanks to that, many communities of doctors practicing rotary bell therapy have been formed across the country. This spread is the catalyst for us to think about taking the rotating bell out of a simple therapy room or workshop space.

With "Sound Healing Concert 2025", we believe that this is not only a therapeutic concert, but also the first step for a stronger community that can practice healing and therapy with sound more effectively.

"Sound Healing Concert 2025" marks a journey in which audio therapists like us are committed to a longer journey of accompanying, bringing the best of themselves to serve the community.

In the experience of a person who has just conquered Mount Everest and many previous peaks, how do you feel about the depth of the unique culture of Tibet, through the symbol of the rotating bell?

- When I came to the Himalaya, I not only came into contact with cultural objects but also became friends with the people of the Himalaya, then came to the energy of nature - those are the peaks. With the depth of Himalaya culture, I feel this is a cultural area that can open up to us huge spaces within.

The same goes for the rotating bell: When we are exposed to the rotating bell, the vibrations and sounds from the bell help our vibration frequencies reach areas that are sometimes buried in a bustling, bustling life every day.

That is a life in which we can be leisurely, live more slowly, know how to observe the complexities that are happening around us more; and especially know how to listen to the emotions and energy in ourselves.

10 years of experience in audio therapy and regular trips to Nepal have brought about significant inner changes for you and your partner?

- From the Himalaya, I have truly been transformed by knowing a colorful spiritual life filled with the energy of change of mind. It is the journey to Nepal, to the Himalaya regularly that has given me the opportunity to learn and the spiritual treasure exuding from nature, from the culture, the people here...

Therefore, the next journey in the next 10 years for me personally and the OM Himalayas team will be a journey of sharing and giving behind what we have received. Including bells, Sound Healing concerts, and activities sharing their journeys to this land.
