In terms of professional achievements, this is a Vietnamese player with impressive international performances this year.
Good experiences in Mongolia and Thailand
This year, Ly Thi Luyen is a member of the Duc Giang Chemicals team and she is competing in round 1 of the 2026 National Volleyball Championship in Dong Anh (Hanoi). However, before returning to Vietnam to compete, Ly Thi Luyen had time to achieve two important achievements. This hitter won the runner-up title of the Mongolia Volleyball Championship 2026 with the Hobby Ace team.
After that, Ly Thi Luyen won the 2026 Thailand Volleyball Championship with Nakhon Ratchasima Qmin C VC Team. The female player expressed: "For me, each competition result brings great professional and spiritual value. I am lucky to have the opportunity to compete in Mongolia and Thailand this year. Actually, each volleyball background has different expertise, but above all, when I myself compete abroad, I feel that I have had very good experiences.
Ly Thi Luyen has become the first Vietnamese female player to compete in the Mongolian Volleyball Tournament. Her contributions are highly appreciated by her teammates at the Hobby Ace Team. But when entering the match at the Thailand Volleyball Tournament 2026 (Ly Thi Luyen was hired by Nakhon Ratchasima Qmin C VC Team in the second phase of the season), the hitter once said that she also had nervousness. Because Thai women's volleyball has good players in terms of expertise, so any Vietnamese player playing football in Thailand always receives attention from the media and foreign experts.
“I think the matches in Thailand have helped me mature a lot. Especially, I see the very professional way of organizing the competition in Thailand. Furthermore, Thai audiences love volleyball very much, so the tournaments receive enthusiastic cheers,” Ly Thi Luyen shared with the media when sharing her experience in Thailand.
Before Ly Thi Luyen, Vietnamese women's volleyball had middle blocker Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa (currently the head coach of VTV Binh Dien Long An Team) and main attacker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy who played for a team at the Thai Volleyball Championship and won the championship.
However, this year's achievement is of great significance for Ly Thi Luyen personally. This is the first time she has won the national championship with a team she plays for. During her journey to compete with her managing team Duc Giang Chemicals, Ly Thi Luyen participated in 5 finals (from 2020 to 2024) but the team only won the runner-up title.
Competing is accumulation
Ly Thi Luyen is currently the tallest Vietnamese female player competing in professional volleyball tournaments. The hitter is 1m95 tall, surpassing main hitter Tran Thi Thanh Thuy (1m93).
Women's youth volleyball professionals in Hanoi once chatted and recalled the discovery of Ly Thi Luyen very accidentally. It was an opportunity for the team to attend a wedding and see a girl with promising height. After persuading and inviting Ly Thi Luyen to try volleyball, she agreed.
In 2013, at the age of 13, Ly Thi Luyen began to practice basic volleyball techniques according to the talent line of the Hanoi Women's Volleyball Team. Ly Thi Luyen's family was originally purely agricultural in the Hung Yen countryside. Not coming from a traditional sports family, but Ly Thi Luyen has made encouraging growth steps.
When joining the Hoa Chat Duc Giang Women's Volleyball Team, this slender and tall girl continued to be professionally trained by coaches to achieve perfection in techniques when playing in the middle block position.
“I have learned basic techniques with volleyball from serving, passing, blocking defense or attacking spikes. Each lesson from the teachers is a valuable lesson for me to learn. For me, the biggest lesson I learned is to accumulate experience through each tournament,” Ly Thi Luyen shared.
This year, Ly Thi Luyen entered the age of 26 (born in 2000), however, her competition experience is not small. Not counting competition programs abroad, Ly Thi Luyen has gone through the most fierce seasons with her managing team Hoa Chat Duc Giang in the national championship arena.
I still have high hopes that I and the team will win the championship once. The team is always determined to aim for this," Ly Thi Luyen once expressed. Participating in 5 National Championship finals from 2020 to 2024, Ly Thi Luyen experienced memorable emotional levels of her career because in the matches her team could not win but received the runner-up title.
Through the tournaments, my expertise has improved better. In which, I focus well on defensive blocking and tactical attacking spikes," the female player added.
Still looking for opportunities to join the national team
Ly Thi Luyen was a member of the Vietnamese Women's Volleyball Team in 2023. However, she was absent from the Vietnamese Women's Volleyball Team in many gatherings in 2024 and 2025. Last year, Ly Thi Luyen was not gathered to participate in international tournaments of the Vietnamese Women's Volleyball Team (including SEA Games 33 in Thailand).
Many professional questions were raised during this unfortunate absence. However, for herself, Ly Thi Luyen believes that she has more motivation to work harder in her profession and achieve high performance to be ready to serve the Vietnamese Women's Volleyball Team when given the opportunity to return. Three years ago, Ly Thi Luyen was an official member of the Vietnamese Women's Volleyball Team and won fourth place at the 2023 Asian Championship and ASIAD 19.
This year, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is planned to participate in the 2026 Asian Championship and ASIAD 20. Head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet said that his top priority and the coaching staff is to select players in the best form to focus on national tasks in 2026. In which, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team aims to maintain fourth place at ASIAD 20.
Ly Thi Luyen's form has been clearly shown by her performances in Mongolia and Thailand. Returning to Vietnam to participate in round 1 of the 2026 National Club Championship, she and the Duc Giang Chemical Team are achieving outstanding results at Dong Anh Gymnasium (Hanoi).
“Assessing the group of players playing supporting attacks with the Vietnamese Women's Volleyball Team at this time, Ly Thi Luyen is one of the players in good form. Her height of 1m95 is one of the advantages that helps Ly Thi Luyen control ball situations on the net. In addition, her playing experience and experience in tournaments abroad bring confidence to the player,” said former head coach of the Vietnamese Women's Volleyball Team - Mr. Thai Thanh Tung.
This year, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is expected to focus on the first professional stage at the end of May 2026 and fans are very confident that Ly Thi Luyen will be named in this gathering.
