Thought of retiring
After 10 years of "hiding", Tien Dat has just returned to music. For you, what does 10 years of "hiding" mean? Is it 10 years since you returned or 10 years of not being interested in showbiz?
- Actually, both are true. There were times when I didn't even use social media, nor did I listen to music. I just focused on business. I didn't even follow entertainment activities. I was almost completely separated from showbiz, so many viewers called me "in hiding".
While artists always want to release products and maintain a certain "hotness" in the entertainment industry, you seem to be not interested in maintaining your appeal?
- Because when I decided to focus on business, I admitted that I had a weakness of not being able to do two things at the same time. When doing business, I did not have the ability to be a good artist. If I found that I was not doing well, I thought I should stop and wait for a more suitable time.
During that time, did you miss your job?
- Honestly, sometimes when I think back, I really miss it. But at that time, because I was too focused on business, I felt like I lost connection with art.
Have you ever thought about retiring?
- Yes! There was a time when I thought I was a normal person, not an artist. There was even a time when I was shy in front of a crowd. And at that time, I felt like I had completely retired.
Previously, you shared that when you participated in "Call Me by Fire", you had the motivation to return to art. But honestly, is it because you "hid" for too long that you wanted to come back to be more active and the show "Anh Trai" is a stepping stone?
- As an artist, it is not true to say that I do not miss my profession. In fact, I love art very much, but I cannot do two things at the same time and I stopped for too long, so when I wanted to return, I felt self-conscious and could not do well. That was my biggest obstacle.
But with the show "Call Me by Fire", I also bet on myself. At first, I didn't like the show because it was too long. But when I watched the international version of "Call Me by Fire", I saw artists who were my idols in Hong Kong (China) returning to showbiz. I saw them like me, who had also worked hard in the arts for a while, then disappeared and came back.
This is the motivation for me to try once to see if I am still suitable for the entertainment industry or not. If not, I feel I have nothing to lose.
So have you ever wanted to refuse the invitation of the organizers of the program "Call Me by Fire"?
- At first, I really wanted to refuse. But I couldn't just refuse. I also had to research the program carefully to see how it was and then give an answer to the organizers.
Compete not for the championship title
In the last 5 performances, the audience was surprised by your performance in the competition rounds. Compared to the talented artists, the young artists have more energy. So what makes you determined and make each time on stage like it's your last?
- My wife at home has taken care of everything, I no longer think about business and start focusing on art. So, I put all my effort into the Performances. I try to do my best. I learn a lot from young people.
I started from zero from the time I stopped working in the arts. I learned many good things from Duy Khanh, Binz... to absorb and when I was on stage, I did my best.
Maybe, I am not the most outstanding person among the "talents" but I can do better than myself yesterday and that is success.
Can Tien Dat tell us about the Rap part that is attracting Binz's audience, performed by his Children's House?
- Going to Concert 5, we wanted to write a positive song. When we wrote this song, we sent the message that no matter what tomorrow brings, even if luck doesn't come to us, we still accept it.
When given a topic, each member gave their thoughts. For example, losing a job, a lover getting angry... how would everyone handle it? And everyone chose to handle it positively.
Every member of the Children's House tries their best, delving deeply into the work process. We have the mindset to enjoy and move forward.
Did you think you would get this far in the show from the start?
- I didn't think I would go that far. At first, I thought I would only make it to episode 4 or 5. Because at this episode, the show would eliminate the "talents". I thought I was insecure and my ability would only stop at that level.
After Show 5, do you expect to be one of the 17 people in the almighty family?
- When I came to Performance 5, I thought it was a success beyond my expectations. I learned a lot from you guys, even learned a lot to fix myself.
In Performance 5, I performed with the mindset of "after the performance I will go home". Because I had fulfilled my desire. Even if I was eliminated, I would still be very happy. But if I became an all-powerful family, I think that would also be my greatest joy.
Do you care about winning or losing when participating in "Call Me by Fire"?
- I don't take winning or losing as a goal for myself, but take it as a motivation to improve myself every day.
That means when I enter a playground, I always compete with all my might, but not with the aim of winning the championship, but as a motivation for me to try harder.
Which "Brother" left you with the most profound lesson?
- In the common house, the "talents" all play together. However, everyone has their own house, so I am close to the members of my own house. In the Children's House, I really like Binz. I find you sincere and appreciate you.
I also like Rhymastic because he is straightforward. I think his good point is that he dares to speak frankly and express his opinion. This is what I lack and I learned from him.
Did you ever think the audience would love "talented" people so much?
- I also love the show because the 33 "talents" are 33 personalities. These 33 personalities exist somewhere in society. For that reason, the audience can sympathize and love the whole show.
The fact that 20,000 tickets were sold out in about an hour, I was very surprised, I didn't think it was true. Because I think, in the program, there are many people like me who are old, not very active, but when they come back, the audience still supports.
After "Call Me by Fire" ends, do you want to be an artist or a businessman?
- This is really a difficult question, I also asked myself this question: after "Call Me by Fire", what will I do?
I think I will feel a sense of loss because I am used to that kind of routine and living in moments like that. To return to normal life, I find it very difficult.
I feel like I am addicted to art and trying to quit so I can be with my family again. Thanks to art, I feel less dry and gentle with my family.
