Right before the 2026 season kicked off, setter Doan Thi Lam Oanh was unexpectedly assigned by the coaching staff of the Information Corps to be the captain of the team. The female player believes that she received the responsibility of captain after her teammate Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh (who was assigned the task earlier) suddenly suffered an injury. However, a player who is already a soldier volleyball player will complete all tasks with the highest determination.
In terms of time, Doan Thi Lam Oanh has had 12 years of getting acquainted, practicing and competing with the ball and net of indoor volleyball. We remember the time in 2014 when the youth coaches of the Information Corps Team selected Lam Oanh after the preliminary aptitude test. At that time, the girl from Ba Don countryside (former Quang Binh, now Quang Tri) very cautiously entered the selection test and achieved professional requirements. Also from here, Doan Thi Lam Oanh entered the military sports environment of the Information Corps unit, getting acquainted with volleyball expertise.
In the early stages of basic technical training, talented players are fully professionally trained by the coach. Then, based on professional qualities and prediction ability to play well in which position, the coach will guide players to practice that position. I have become familiar with the setter position," player Lam Oanh said.
Lam Oanh herself also understands that being selected and training at the Information Corps team is already a source of pride for herself. However, the military discipline environment is very strict. In particular, the Information Corps football team has a long tradition, always choosing young athletes with the best qualifications to develop in the long term.
No matter which player does not maintain their will or does not focus on professional development, it is very easy to stop. After getting acquainted with volleyball, I love it more and consider this sport as flesh and blood. I myself learn from the coaches, the older sisters in the team to improve in technique. Learning from myself also helps to grow up," Doan Thi Lam Oanh confided.
Not wanting to miss opportunities at the National Sports Games
In her memory, Lam Oanh said that she has had successes but also no shortage of unfortunate losses in the highest leagues of Vietnamese volleyball. However, the feeling of competing at the National Sports Festival still has a very different spirit.
In 2022, she and her teammates reached the final to compete for the Gold Medal in women's indoor volleyball at the 9th National Sports Games held in Quang Ninh. The moment the Army Women's Volleyball Team (mainly the Information Corps Team) won against the Long An Women's Team (mainly the VTV Binh Dien Long An Team) after a combination for Lam Oanh to play the ball to help Kieu Trinh attack and score points.
Right at the stadium in Quang Ninh at that time, Lam Oanh cried because of emotion when she won the prestigious Gold Medal for the first time. "I overcame a lot of pressure to get this result. Winning in a final, especially at the National Sports Games, has never been easy," Lam Oanh said emotionally at that time.
This year, Lam Oanh and the Army women's volleyball team will continue to maintain the goal of completing the best results at the X-2026 National Sports Games. "I cannot say anything in advance because everything is still my own preparation, of the team's collective. But with the highest determination, I really want to have good results at this Games.
When asked Lam Oanh, what is the most difficult thing she finds in the training and professional competition process in the setter position? The player said that it is the one who must know how to overcome pressure. On the field, each player holds a key position that makes up the general tactics of a volleyball team. However, the setter player is the person who takes on the most important role because without coordination from this position, the players cannot coordinate to attack and score points.
At the beginning of 2026, the Command of the Information Corps and the coaching staff of the Women's Volleyball Team of the Information Corps assigned the task to the team collective to maintain the championship achievement of the National Sports Games. For each person, including Lam Oanh, the pressure of achievement is very high. However, she said: "In sports, we must have pressure to complete the set goals. Every time we conquer a tournament, we also overcome pressure. Pressure is the motivation for me and my teammates to do our best professionally.
In terms of personal achievements, Lam Oanh has won the national championship, won the SEA Games Gold Medal, participated in ASIAD or played in Thailand. The hitter analyzed very specifically: "I have seen many players in the setter position in teams competing with different schools of thought. Each passing style, coordination with teammates are always things that I learn from opponents to do better for myself as well as for the Information Corps Football Team".
Head coach of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team - Mr. Nguyen Tuan Kiet is a person who grew up in the setter position. Mr. Kiet used to coach young players at the Information Corps team. Therefore, he highly appreciates Lam Oanh's training efforts to grow up and is one of the setter players with the level of Vietnamese Women's Volleyball.
Mr. Kiet assessed that what Lam Oanh achieved better than her teammates when playing on the field was being able to withstand pressure. Therefore, Lam Oanh has always been chosen as the main setter in the Vietnamese women's volleyball team squad in recent times.
Beautiful ending for Vietnam's No. 1 male swimmer
At the recent SEA Games 33 in Thailand, fans paid a lot of attention in the swimming stands when Lam Oanh suddenly appeared in the competition with swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang. She and her relatives were present to cheer for the No. 1 Vietnamese swimmer competing at SEA Games 33.
Regarding her love life, until now, Lam Oanh has only publicly announced her romantic relationship with Nguyen Huy Hoang. Although she did not say specifically, Lam Oanh once said that the relationship between her and Huy Hoang has been for a while and the two respect each other very much.
Friends in the professional community always joke that in any tournament, if Lam Oanh posts her competition photos on social networks, Huy Hoang will definitely have words of encouragement and vice versa. They are national team players, understanding that the sports environment needs professional concentration, so they give the greatest encouragement to the other half in each tournament.
