Experience is the most precious thing
Duong Thuy Vi has just participated in the Tao Lu World Cup 2026 (World Cup 2026) taking place from July 7 to 8 in China. She has focused on preparing professionally for this tournament after more than half a year of training and determined that the Tao Lu World Cup 2026 is an important test to aim for ASIAD 20.
I can't say anything yet because all preparations are being carried out according to the professional curriculum. Each tournament gives me valuable experience and that experience helps me perform well the tasks and achievements set out," Duong Thuy Vi cautiously shared before attending the 2026 World Tao Lu Cup.
Half a year ago at SEA Games 33 in 2025, Duong Thuy Vi focused on showing her techniques to complete the goal of winning a medal in Thailand. At the end of the competition, she did not win the medal as expected.
Experts see it as a surprise. Because from the 26th SEA Games held in 2011 to before the 33rd SEA Games in 2025, Duong Thuy Vi has always been a Vietnamese wushu athlete who won medals at the Southeast Asian Games. Sharing her feelings in Thailand at that time, Thuy Vi said: "I still maintain the difficult techniques in my performances to improve. If I lower the criteria myself, I will be satisfied, but the goal of ASIAD 20 is a challenge in 2026. I am also sad that I don't have any medals, but I have accumulated experience to do better in the future".
This year, Duong Thuy Vi entered the age of 33. The agility may have decreased compared to when she was young. However, the elegance in each movement of the professional swordplay and spearplay exercises is still maintained by the female player.
Thuy Vi's achievements in taolu events are likened by experts to a colorful picture, so just a few lines will be difficult to describe completely. She started winning international medals in 2007, in her youth tournament career. Over time, this female athlete from Hanoi has successively owned many of the most prestigious medal achievements that any wushu martial artist in taolu events (performance) must dream of such as: World championship, Asian championship, ASIAD championship, World Games championship, SEA Games championship, Asian youth championship, world youth championship, World Cup medal as well as exclusive national championship for many years.
However, the special point that the wushu coach of Hanoi Sports (Thuy Vi's managing unit) and the Vietnamese wushu team always have high recognition for this female athlete is that coach Nguyen Van Chuong once shared: "We always appreciate Thuy Vi's awareness of training and professional competition, and above all, she always sets a motivation to strive for achievements without being satisfied with the results she has achieved.

Desire to conquer ASIAD 20
Duong Thuy Vi is the only wushu athlete of Vietnamese Sports who has ever won a Gold Medal at the ASIAD arena. Thuy Vi won the championship in the swordplay/martial arts performance event at ASIAD 17 in 2014 held in Korea. At that time, the Vietnamese sports delegation was "rescued" by Thuy Vi and achievements were safe. The word "rescue" is completely literal. Thuy Vi's Gold Medal is the only Gold Medal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at ASIAD 17.
After 12 years, Duong Thuy Vi continues to be a key athlete for the Vietnamese wushu team to prepare for ASIAD 20 in September in Japan. Having gone through years of competition in many international arenas, all wushu fighters (including Vietnamese athletes) in Asia always assess that the medals won at ASIAD are still the most prestigious professional affirmation.
In the past two years, many taolu athletes in Asian teams have been and are showing very high expertise. However, you yourself must understand your ability and also grasp the opponent, then the chance of success will be clearest," Duong Thuy Vi once confided.
Right now, Thuy Vi's top priority is to show the best form at the 2026 World Cup and grasp more direct opponents participating here and also at ASIAD 20.
At the 2026 World Taolu Cup held in China, Duong Thuy Vi helped the Vietnamese wushu team win a Gold Medal with the highest score from professional referees of 9.746 points. On the previous competition day at the 2026 World Taolu Cup, Duong Thuy Vi won a Bronze Medal in the swordplay performance. Thus, in the 2 events of martial arts and swordplay, Duong Thuy Vi both won medals.
