Zero-profit" supermarket in the heart of a factory
After many hours of working in the cold environment of the seafood processing factory, instead of having to rush to the market or buy goods outside at high prices, many workers of Truong Giang Seafood chose to go to the "Trade Union Supermarket selling non-profit goods" right in the company premises.
This model was born from the reality that workers often work overtime and have little time to take care of family matters. From the proposal of the Executive Committee of the grassroots Trade Union, the Board of Directors invested in opening a supermarket specifically for union members and workers with the criteria of selling at the original price, not putting profit first. Here, from food and necessities to household items, prices are lower than the market. Workers not only save time but also significantly reduce living costs in the context of high prices for many items.
According to statistics from the company's grassroots trade union, this model currently benefits union members and workers by more than 125 million VND per month. Many workers share that what makes them feel warm is not simply buying cheap goods, but the concern of the Trade Union organization for every small need in daily life.
Trade Union Meal" full of sharing
If non-profit supermarkets help reduce the burden of spending, the program "Trade Union Meals and Thanks to Workers" adds energy and creates cohesion in each shift.
After organizing the Trade Union Meal on Workers' Month 2024, realizing the positive meaning, the Executive Committee of the grassroots trade union proposed and the Board of Directors agreed to maintain it regularly on Saturdays every week, bringing more quality meals to union members, workers, and laborers. To date, more than 65,000 "Trade Union Meals" have been handed over to workers with more than 1.6 billion VND spent to increase the support level from 25,000 - 30,000 VND for each meal. The friendly atmosphere at the company's dining hall has also become an opportunity for business leaders, Trade Union officials and workers to sit down to chat and share their thoughts about work and life.
As a result, the gap between employers and employees has been significantly narrowed. Many workers said that what they feel most clearly is the respect of businesses for their labor and contributions.
Support for female workers
At Truong Giang Seafood, female workers account for a large proportion. The characteristic of working in a cold environment, standing for many hours, makes pregnant women or raising young children face many difficulties. From that reality, the Trade Union established the "Pregnant Women and Child Raising Club" to take care of female union members separately in this special period. Currently, there are 87 female workers participating in the club.
Here, women are consulted on pregnancy health care, shared parenting experiences, supported with nutritional knowledge and skills to balance work and family. Although the living space is simple, it brings great spiritual value, helping many female workers feel cared for, shared and have more motivation to stick with the business for a long time.
Benefit is not just support, but also companionship
According to Ms. Phung Thi Ly Ngoc - Chairwoman of the company's grassroots trade union, taking care of workers must originate from practical needs. Therefore, each model is built on the basis of listening to the thoughts and aspirations of workers to have appropriate solutions.
In addition to welfare programs, the Trade Union also coordinates with businesses to support union members in difficult circumstances, visit sick people, give gifts for holidays and Tet, and create conditions for workers to improve their skills and improve their income. The care with specific actions has contributed to building a harmonious and stable working environment for many years at the enterprise. More than 2,000 workers and employees see the company as a second home - a place where they not only work but also receive sharing, respect and companionship.
With creative, practical, and humane actions, the grassroots Trade Union of Truong Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company was commended by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for its outstanding achievements in "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style" in the period 2023 - 2025.
