Collective kitchen supports Gia Lai health sector employees

Gia Lai - Collective, free kitchens add motivation for medical staff in the context of high work pressure and busyness.

Collective kitchen, "support" for medical staff

Currently, Hoang Anh Gia Lai University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital has 473 employees, including 447 trade union members. For many years, hospital leaders and the Executive Committee of the Trade Union have been aware of caring for both the material and spiritual lives of officials and employees with many practical and meaningful activities.

In that journey, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Loan - Head of the Administration and Human Resources Department is considered one of the "firekeepers" for the unit's trade union movement.

The medical industry is a special field with high work pressure, long working hours, especially in the departments of emergency, resuscitation, surgery and inpatient treatment. Many medical staff have to eat quickly, rest late or often skip meals due to emergency cases.

From that reality, the hospital's Board of Directors and the Trade Union have agreed to implement a free collective kitchen model for all medical staff.

Ms. Loan directly participates in building plans, organizing operations, recruiting personnel and coordinating the operation of the kitchen. Currently, all employees at the hospital are served free lunch; the on-duty force is additionally supported with dinner at a rate of 30,000 VND/portion.

On average, each day, the cafeteria serves about 473 lunches, 60 dinners and about 30 more for practical and apprentice staff.

What is special is that the kitchen is not simply serving eating and drinking but is also built as a space to share and support the medical team after stressful working hours.

There are emergency cases or surgeries that last for many hours, medical staff do not have time to eat on time. When the surgery ends, although it is very late, the kitchen still always has hot, decent meals ready for brothers and sisters," Ms. Loan shared.

Each meal ensures full nutritional groups including carbohydrates, protein, green vegetables and fat; the menu changes daily to suit the taste and nutritional needs of workers.

From an seemingly simple activity, the collective kitchen has become a "spiritual support" for many medical staff of the hospital.

Creative emulation for patient quality

In parallel with caring for the lives of union members, the hospital's Trade Union also promotes the emulation movement "Good Labor - Creative Labor", associated with the goal of improving the quality of medical examination and treatment and innovating service style.

In the past two years, the hospital has had many initiatives recognized at the grassroots level, including 3 typical initiatives participating in industry-level selection.

Improvements focus on shortening hospital admission procedures, optimizing the process of caring for seriously ill patients and applying internal software in drug and medical supplies management.

Many difficult and complex cases have also been successfully treated by the hospital's medical team, such as emergency care for pregnant women from Laos, surgery to reconnect severed hands, or handling critical heart-penetrating wounds.

In 2025, 3 collectives and 3 individuals of the hospital were awarded certificates of merit by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in medical examination and treatment.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Loan personally was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Gia Lai Provincial Labor Federation for her outstanding achievements in the emulation movement and trade union activities in 2025.
