Raising the innovation index in Can Tho, promoting the advantage of being a regional center

Can Tho - In the afternoon of July 27, the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City organized a scientific conference on Solutions to promote and improve the Can Tho City Innovation Index.

The workshop aims to assess the results of the local innovation index (PII) in 2025 of Can Tho City; analyze the opportunities and challenges in the process of implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation, and Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW of the Politburo on private economic development.

According to Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Van Khoi, in the context of strong digital transformation and knowledge economy development, science and technology, innovation and digital transformation have become key drivers promoting rapid and sustainable growth.

After more than 02 years of implementation, the Local Innovation Index (PII) has affirmed its role as a comprehensive tool to assess the innovation capacity of localities. For Can Tho City, in the context of expanding development space and towards building a unified socio-economic region, correctly assessing the PII Index in 2025 and building breakthrough solutions for the period 2026 - 2030 is of strategic significance.

At the workshop, experts, scientists and delegates presented many papers focusing on contents such as: breakthrough solutions to improve the Local Innovation Index in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta); international experience in economic development based on science, technology and innovation; public-private partnership (PPP) model in promoting innovative businesses and digital transformation.

Delegates also discussed many solutions on developing high-quality human resources, strengthening links between science and technology organizations and businesses, attracting investment, developing digital businesses and completing the innovation ecosystem of Can Tho City.

Mr. Huynh Van Tung, Chief Representative of the Ministry of Science and Technology Office in the South - said that with its position as the center of the Mekong Delta region, Can Tho has many advantages to develop the innovation ecosystem thanks to an increasingly synchronous infrastructure system, a network of research institutes, universities and high-quality human resources.

Representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology expect that the presentations and discussion opinions will focus on deeply analyzing the results of the City's PII Index, sharing experiences at home and abroad, and proposing practical solutions to continue to improve innovation capacity, develop the science and technology ecosystem and digital transformation of Can Tho in the coming time.

According to the Results, Can Tho City's PII Index in 2025 reached 46.21 points, ranking first in the Mekong Delta region (Mekong Delta) and ranked 10th/34 provinces and cities nationwide. Can Tho is also in the group of leading localities in many pillars such as Institutions (ranked 4th), Knowledge, Innovation and Technology Products (ranked 6th) and Impact (ranked 9th).
