This year's contest has the theme: "Imagine you are an ocean. Show someone why and how they should do it to take good care of and protect you.
The Awarding Ceremony of the contest was held on May 16, 2025 at the Headquarters of Vietnam Post Corporation, No. 5 Pham Hung (Hanoi).
This is the 37th competition held in Vietnam by agencies: Ministry of Science and Technology (formerly the Ministry of Information and Communications), the Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, Vietnam Writers Association, Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Corporation and Young Pioneers and Nhi Dong Newspaper.
The contest was launched and deployed nationwide from November 11, 2024 to March 5, 2025. The Organizing Committee received nearly 1.5 million entrance letters from students across the country.
The theme of the contest is associated with the goal of "Conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources" in the United Nations system of 17 sustainable development goals.
With this year's theme of this year, many students transformed into the ocean to raise the world issues facing, the most prominent is the issue of marine environmental pollution. They have applied their imagination and unlimited creativity to talk, confide, remind people of the role of the ocean as well as share specific solutions and actions to protect the ocean, sea and marine ecosystem; Demonstrate human responsibility, especially the younger generation in nature conservation, for sustainable development.
The letters selected for the final round and highly appreciated are letters of creativity, with unique emotions, and impressive works.
After 5 rounds of judging, the National Jury selected 142 entries for the final round. Results: 1 First Prize, 3 Second Prizes, 5 Third Prizes, 30 Encouragement Prizes, 61 Promising Penel Prize; 10 ideas Unleashed Prizes.
The first and second prizes were awarded the Creative Youth Badge by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
The letter winning the First Prize of Vietnam of the 54th UPU International Writing Contest in 2025 went to Pham Doan Minh Khue, class 10C2, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Son Tra District, Da Nang City. This is the 9th time that Da Nang students have won the first prize in a national competition after 37 seasons held in Vietnam.
Admiring James Cameron's film talent through world-famous films Titanic and Avatar, Minh Khue thought of a script for a film about the ocean to send to the director.
As an ocean, the letter has the paragraph: "I made humanity cry because of Titanic, amazed by The Abyss, immersed in Avata. But now I need a movie that tells the truth, our own story: I am killed and I die, humanity is also the end of the world called:" The request of the ocean ".
According to Minh Khue's imagination, a detailed and dramatic film script calls for the cooperation of all humanity to save the ocean: "Finally, the screen is dark, the ocean is in pain: The above projects are just salted sea without the join hands of the whole humanity. Please save the ocean or welcome the end of the world!
The first prize-winning letter of Pham Doan Minh Khue was translated into French by the Organizing Committee and sent to the World Post Alliance (UPU) in Switzerland for international competition.
